    Malwarebytes blocks the website http://www.infognition.com
as it is identified as an infectious site that even tries to connect to their server from the sharewareonsale page!

The software must be considered a security risk too…

Malwarebytes is going false alarm here, there is not a single file on infognition.com that would trigger a warning on virustotal.com. When you register the giveaway version program it does connect to its server once, and you agree to that in the EULA. Further use of Video Enhancer is completely offline.

I purchased a license 2012-May. I an confirm since that time, Malwarebytes has blocked the Infognition website; and, even with Malwarebytes disabled, the Infognition website does not respond and then times out. In order to download the most recent version, I had to resort to using the present SOS promotion.

I am taking the time to post this experience in hopes the software and site owner will respond to the barriers encountered by registered owners and prospective buyers.

    Thank you.

[@Doyh] Thank you for reporting! If it’s possible please provide a bit more details: what exactly you see in the browser (some blocking message? time out? something else?) and what is your Internet provider?
Lots of people from around the world are visiting the site and downloading the software without any problems, so it might be your local issue, unless we get many reports like this.

A bit of news: version 2.0 beta has just became publicly available. The UI is very different from 1.x, now it’s closer to Photoshop or other image editors with layers, only instead of layers here you’ve got video filters/effects, and all changes in their order and settings are immediately visible. 1.x versions were more like “aim, aim, aim, fire!” – first you collected all the filters and picked all the settings, more or less blindly, then you could run preview or start processing to see some file processed from beginning onward. In 2.0 it’s much more interactive, you open a video, apply some effects and see results immediately, jump to different places of the file to see how it looks, add more filters, enable/disable them quickly without removing from the chain (it’s like making a layer transparent in image editors), and only when you’re satisfied with the visual result you initiate full processing saving to a file. Preview in VirtualDub filters now is finally working as expected.
It’s still a beta, so some more features will appear in full release coming soon and the look might change a bit, but it’s quite functional already.

I purchased this software in 2011. I can confirm Doyh’s experience that the infognition website was sometimes down or unavailable. I even thought the vendor went out of business because I could not reach the website. As this happened some time ago I cannot provide any more details. I don’t believe it was a local issue. I also use Malwarebytes, so it is possible this was a false positive by Malwarebytes.

The review posted on the SoS website by Dennis Nelson is spot on. Expect to spend some time with the program and your video clips. I’m not sure I ever got my DV AVI files to look any better than just standard up-conversion by my editing program. My source material is talking heads, which should be ideal for the Video Enhancer forward and backward frame seeking algorithm. If all fairness video conversion to HD is not a simple pushbutton approach and intelligent choices about codecs and interlacing and filters and their sequencing must be made. If you can make those choices, then this program can be of use. But that’s the essential problem: it’s a tool for the initiated. Up-conversion requires more technical knowledge can come from skills acquired in non-linear editing. Dmity’s own comments “1.x versions were more like “aim, aim, aim, fire!” – first you collected all the filters and picked all the settings, more or less blindly…” recognizes that you are on your own, mostly, to select the right filters and settings.

From 2011 to 2016 the user interface has remained essentially unchanged. I look forward to seeing the changes in the new beta version just mentioned by Dimitry in the comments. Will those who partake in this SoS promotion receive an upgrade price?

[@Ron T.] Thank you for the input. You’re right, Video Enhancer is a “prosumer” (in the old sense) tool, for people who know the difference between container format and compression method, or how to select bitrate for a codec they choose and what it all means.

In a week (starting March 30, IIRC) here on SoS will be a big discount sale lasting for 7 days, and the license will be working for both 1.9 and all 2.x versions.

first off: thanks for letting us try the program.

I couldn’t download the program as well, since some antivirusprogram complained about it being an unknown software! (that was the desciption of the “virus”). I then made a copy of the downloaded file, before the av deleted it and renamed the copy to something other than exe..

I also only have few days left, since I have no Inet connection at home. Could be nice if it was listed rather big that an Inet connection is required for the first use..

Still the program succeded in making an old photograph twice as big -tough it was made as an avi, which continued to grow in size :)
