    Bonjour,

I download from both here, email link, and GOTD. None of the three would run after unzipping and running Setup.exe as admin. Error said “Failed to launch the Program.” I went to http://www.softorbits.com/icon-maker/ and used green download button. Installed and registered using Registration key included in zip file readme.txt. On re-open, the Register button doesn’t show up and the About box says it is registered. Created an icon from an image and tried to save it to desktop. Program gave warning about trial version having limitations on saving, however, the icon did save to the desktop and is OK. I have not fully investigated if saving will continue to work or if there are other limitations in what may be only a trial version. I will not be responsible if you use this method to get a working copy and something goes wrong.

See GOTD giveaway website for comments about lots of problems people are having.

[@David] You have to use your own good judgment in addition to any one security software’s warnings. First, check out the subject file yourself, using something like VirusTotal, (which uses fifty –50, you know F-I-F-T-Y individual software to scan files and calls this one “clean”.) and then, ask yourself: Do I really want to waste Ashraf’s and everybody else’s time crying wolf because *my* preferred security software told me to? Or, do I want to make the informed and prudent determination that *my* preferred security software probably is making a mistake? If your preferred software were perfect, then wouldn’t everybody be using it and all the other vendors be out of business?

Anyway, the program installed and activated without issue on my well-secured system (no alerts of any sort) and has a nice utilitarian interface and good feature set. However, it repeatedly crashed when trying to extract icons from some executable files (e.g., Adobe Photoshop CS2) but worked okay for others. It outputs good quality results and is a keeper.

Thanks SoftOrbits and SOS (and the other guys… sort of. I could do without their silly wrapper.)
