Have used countless “duplicate finders”. Yeah, most are a total joke. I thought this was a re-run, but I haven’t seen this before. Wow. Yup, Wow. Configuration is wide open, custom searches, fairly fast since the drives I tried it on were 4TB and I did a *.* search, and used two 4 TB drives. 2.5 million files, and I deleted almost half of them, didn’t choke a bit. I verified the results with another program, and am impressed. Nice set of options as to how to handle the duplicates after they are found. The ONLY thing I don’t like is that I can’t seem to browse, paste, drop any network folders whatsoever, so it’s only good for what you have in or hanging off your machine where it’s installed. That is a definite bummer.
Still a Keeper. Get it while you can.
I also use a freebie called SMF for Search My Files. https://funk.eu/smf/ It’s also great, I like to search on file size with that one, and kill all the hogs I don’t need anymore. Another awesome toy is Search Everything, worth looking at, you’ll never go back. voidtools.com/
Be aware that with Duplicate Finder you might find “duplicates” that don’t have the same name. This is because it defaults to CRC32 search filter, which is a Cyclic Redundancy Check that verifies the contents, regardless of name. If this bothers you, just go to the gear settings and under the first tab, add “Include Filename” box on the right. I would NOT search just by filename, because it’s too easy to get a list that are not actually duplicates, especially with things like .mp3 and .doc files, etc. enjoy, I am.
