DiskFerret does require Java. It does not need/use Edge. It is supported on Windows 10.

Several people have reported seeing only the splash screen when they start DiskFerret. To remedy this run DiskFerret as an administrator. (Right Mouse Click the DiskFerret icon and select Run As Administrator). You must be a local system administrator to run DiskFerret.

I had the same problem, so I decided to run it as administrator (by right-clicking the desktop icon), and it did start. Then I tried to launch it in a normal way, and this time it started without a hitch.

    Hope it helps.

P.S. I am a little apprehensive about using this program, because it uses Java, which is considered to have some serious security issues.

[@consuella] Oracle has made a lot of progress on closing the Java security gaps. Most of those problem are related to allowing unsecure Java applets run inside the browser. DiskFerret is not a browser application, it is a local computer application. It’s jar file is signed with a code signing certificate from a major certificate signing authority and the code cannot be changed else it will not run. It’s safe and does not suffer from browser Java applet exploits.

I installed DIskFerret on my mom’s windows 7 pro 32 bit computer, but when she is trying to launch the program she is getting an error saying: “The exception unknown software exception (0x0000417) occurred in the application at location 0x733351e2.

Click OK to terminate the program.”

Any advice on what she might need to do will be much appreciated.
