[@Adlice Software] You should have mentioned there was a limit to begin with rather than wasting people’s time for something they are not going to get. Not cool!

@John As we said, this is a decision we’ve made because it went out of control. Not planned. at all. Apologizes, I’m still waiting for SOS owner/admin to modify the main page…

@Everyone: The developer ended the giveaway early without telling us and against our agreement with them. Sorry everyone!

[@Adlice Software] Sorry, once you agree to a giveaway on SoS, you can’t simply end it because you don’t like it. Goodbye.

When I say it went out of control, the coupon code is now on comss.ru, on malwaretips.com and many many others websites publicly available.
As a result, the whole internet was getting RogueKiller for free and our sales dropped to zéro, putting the whole company and our people at risk.
Giveaway was a bad idea for us, we won’t do it ever again that way.
    Thanks,

Well, it’s the internet afterall, things like this can happen all the time and it can’t really be controlled by anyone.

If there would have been a limit upfront, there wouldn’t even be a problem with it.

I thought i’ll wait a few days to see what others have to say about the software before i wanted to give it a try but that has been taken care of by now, i guess. ^^

I don’t think the coupon code was a good idea to begin with, I suspect a lot of people obtained multiple licenses because of it. I was just trying to get 1 license as were many others. I understand you can’t just giveaway your product and make money to keep the business going. The thing is though, it does not speak well of a anti-malware software company to blink at the first sign of adversity when they initiated the offering to begin with, I mean if I buy the product what’s going to happen if I need to contact technical support for an issue with it and your just a little too busy, are you going to say “Tech support has exceeded our expectations sorry we can’t help you anymore”. The company should have taken into account that the more 1 year licenses you get out there the better chance you have of having those licenses renewed for a year or more because people have grown used to using it and can see how good the software is rather than act like your doing them a favor.

One last thing, you should not refer to this as a “Giveaway” because it obviously was not a giveaway, it was a promotional opportunity because in my case and others nothing was given away except our time and perhaps IP addresses trying to retrieve the promo from your site.

Just some advice…. You should offer a premium trial version instead of just the free version and perhaps have a giveaway contest for a certain number of licenses.

Well, it’s the internet afterall, things like this can happen all the time and it can’t really be controlled by anyone.

Of course… I suspect maybe some bots (or just people) behind were trying to fetch as much licenses as possible because the increase of “free sales” didn’t reflect in the software usage telemetry, at all. The other interesting thing is that the amount of “people” on the site at 1 time was pretty constant. No spike, just middle-range activity 24h.
Hence the decision, this was a test and it went really bad. Lesson learnt.

“I thought i’ll wait a few days to see what others have to say about the software before i wanted to give it a try but that has been taken care of by now, i guess. ^^”
Right now, you can still use the 30 days trial (built-in).

“The company should have taken into account that the more 1 year licenses you get out there the better chance you have of having those licenses renewed for a year or more because people have grown used to using it and can see how good the software is rather than act like your doing them a favor.”
Yes, but when the 24 hours-giveaway generates as many free licenses (with support and updates and stuff) as you do in 1 year, this is not sustainable. This means those people won’t buy anything from you for (at least) 1 year and possibly generate costs in support. We can’t afford no or few sales for 365 days…

“Just some advice…. You should offer a premium trial version instead of just the free version and perhaps have a giveaway contest for a certain number of licenses.”
There is free trial for 30 days, built-in. Giveaway was a way to reach new people that didn’t hear about us before.

If you (or anybody seeing this) wants to contact the support at adlice.com/contact and say you’d like a license (mentioning SOS giveaway) they’ll give you a unique coupon.

As for Auslogics Disk Defrag what’s the detection name ? Is it labeled as a PUP ?

Yeah, as a “potentially unwanted program”. RK even reporting the desktop shortcut…
