Is it (and IF, in which aspects…) better than the free JDownloader2 ?

Forgot to mention the still existing “youtube-dl”, which is – not only but especially – for video downloads (you may try any other dl-link with this tool, for it perfectly continues paused/stopped downloads!)

If interested, in it, get it from here :

I purchased Ant several years ago after a free trial. I still check out other downloaders like this one, but Ant is my go-to. Often updated, with great support and I have found it downloads from every website I have tried. Having said that, VCap isn’t bad, but I really will stick with Ant.

How come the free version is one-tenth the size?

Your comment is very confusing. Can you explain what in the world you are talking about?

    First off, no hitches installing.
However, I tried to download a YouTube vid and the app just wouldn’t find the link for download. No chance to paste the link either.
So, I decided to deinstall the app and starting the deinstall action prompted Norton to intervene because of undue access to the computer. Firewall warning!
As such I’d rate the app as spyware.

It’s the same team obviously. VCap is the video dowmloading module of AntDM on demand, without browser integration

“A required privilege is not held by the client.” Can’t install it, I remember a lot of times in the past Windows treated “Vcap” as a Virus/Trojan of sorts. Does anybody have a better opinion?
    Thanks.

The same result if I try to install the full version: “VCap.0.1.5.4324.full-setup.exe”

VCap Downloader Pro v0.1.5 does NOT contain malware, and VirusTotal confirms this.

    3 things.

1 – Go to VirusTotal and read the results, there are NO actual ‘detections’, there is nothing found to be malicious in this program, only 2 ‘signature/rule’ matches ( what I consider to be overzealous, that is, they would ding the ‘format’ command because, hey, it can erase things, oh my! But it makes their software test as finding more ‘things’ than other anti-malware programs. ):
    – – Rising finds Spyware.Zbot!8.16B (TFE:5:A2XxEghizAT)
    – – – Note: Rising-Global. com China stopped their public presence in 2013 and their site can’t be reached.
    – – Trapmine finds Suspicious.low.ml.score
    – – – Note: Trapmine. com Estonia user software is available only through contact with their company, no ‘trial’ download for the general public, in other words, they serve their customer’s preferences, not necessarily WinningPC user’s preferences.

2 – VCap Downloader Pro v0.1.5 is ‘unsigned’ *, so Microsoft and others consider it ‘untrustworthy’, NOT because it is untrustworthy, but because they have no audit trail for the author or any way of knowing if it is original or has been modified . . . hence why we go to VirusTotal to check things out, we even check signed programs directly from Microsoft, yes we do!
    * Note: A signed program is digitally signed and associated with a separate digital certificate that identifies the publisher and allows auditing to see if the program has been modified to no longer match the certificate. Some download programmers do NOT want to be easily dinged by lawyers from Warner Brothers and the Motion Picture Association, so the programmers don’t want to ‘sign’ their work, it puts them at risk as self-identified ‘low hanging fruit’ for spurious lawsuits. Downloading is ‘fair use’ ‘time shifting’ and NOT illegal ( only re-sharing other people’s copyright might be against ‘license’ ). So, if we want good programs to download stuff for us, they may be unsigned for a reason.

3 – VCap Downloader Pro v0.1.5 installs under the ‘user’ directory, which I do not like ( I like all programs to be easily findable in ‘programs’ ), but it allows this to install where some users have no permission because their company’s tech support locks the ‘program’ directories for administrators only, so this should install on even limited-access computers just fine. It expects permission to open all firewall ports for the program itself when it is running. If anyone’s installation fails, they may have limited access to %temp%, %userprofile%, %appdata% or overzealous firewall, or other resources, so turn off any ‘watching’ programs like anti-malware, reboot fresh, try logging out and logging in as a new user, install as administrator, and so on.

    – – – – –

It works for me, no scary risky results.

It just does not also grab optional subtitles that are displayed over the video rather than inside the video, drat.

Thanks for letting us explore this and share.
