If I run Leawo Blu-Ray Player as administrator, I no longer get the message about my registration number or computer being banned. Instead, when a disc won’t play, a message displays stating that the title is not yet supported. If Leawo Blu-Ray Player needs to run with administrator rights, it should ask for the rights when the program is stated. It would be preferable though if it can be fixed to run without elevated rights.

the serial key does seem a take a while to come thru, mine took 10hrs but bear with it, its great software for anyone to have, just remember not to update as it could remove the lifetime serial key you get

[@arvid] Glad you like it :-)

[@Lily Maria] Probably false positive but proceed at your own risk.

[@seniormoment] You would need a Blu-ray drive, although you can use Leawo Blu-ray Player to play DVDs since you have a DVD drive.

  9. Rick

    Reply to this comment#24

[@seniormoment] yeah you need a bluray player, an external one can be found quite cheap off ebay

got an old t43 thinkpad laptop with a dvd/cd player. do we need a bluray player to use this or just put in a bluray disk and this leawo player will play it for us? a senior behind the times and on a extremily small budget.

@Lily Maria: Probably a false positive. According to all the 47 different engines at VirusTotal, the file is clean. It’s always a good idea to go to http://www.virustotal.com to check files flagged by your anti-virus.

    That’s strange…McAfee blocked the download…said it contained viruses… (??). Maybe it’s a false positive, I don’t know.

I too like the elegant interface and also that it does not expire after one year, like the DVDFab Media Player.

As I’ve already mentioned, overall, I really do like Leawo’s Player because of:
    1. The beautiful, simple, uncluttered interface.
    2. The extremely low CPU usage – great for those who want to turn an older computer into an HTPC.
    Here are my test results:
    CPU (% Used)
    GPU (% Used)
    DVDFab
    68
    28
    Potplayer
    20
    30
    Leawo
    18
    19
    PowerDVD
    30
    12
    TotalMedia Theater
    41
    9
(Tested on an old PC with a recently added video card: Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 3GB RAM, Win8 64 bit, Geforce GT 630 (Kepler) with 2GB Video RAM.)

Of course, there is some room for improvement to make a good thing even better:

    1. Full Menu is now supported when playing from disc, but it is still not supported when playing from ISO.

    2. Since TotalMedia Theater and PowerDVD cannot play from ISOs, suporting playing from folders would allow users to save their blu-ray movies in a uniform way that can play in all common players. As pointed out in Leawo’s website, one can currently play from a blu-ray folder by choosing a m2ts file. However, it would be much more convenient for the enduser if a movie plays automatically just by navigating to the folder, as is possible in PowerDVD, TotalMedia Theater, DVDFab and PotPlayer. Especially if one has an HTPC and is sitting on the couch, one does not want to figure out which m2ts file to play. In any case, the main movie often consists of more than one m2ts file and sometimes the longest playlist doesn’t even correspond to “Play All”.

    3. There are still some titles that Leawo has trouble with. This is understandable but I if I keep trying to play unsupported titles, I get a message about the software not working on my computer, something about either the registration code or my computer may have been banned. Since I got my code straight from Leawo via the GOTD offer, I know that obviously this is not the case. Everything works again after I restart and reenter the registration. However, this message could be very annoying users who know that they have not done anything illegitimate. When the software is unable to play a title, the error message should be changed and there should not be any implication that the user’s registration number or computer is banned.

    4. It would be a plus if it could support blu-ray 3D in the future.

    5. For HTPCs, it would be great to have Leawo BluRay Player integrate into Windows Media Center (the way PowerDVD does) and/or XBMC.

    6. I had some issue with extreme stuttering with some MKV files, but it may be that it was the files that were defective. To be precise, the files ripped with Aiseesoft MKV Ripper stuttered badly but the ones ripped with MediaCoder played perfectly. I suspect it was the fault of Aiseesoft MKV Ripper because PowerDVD, TotalMedia Theater and DVDFab also had trouble with the same files. However, PotPlayer could play these “bad” MKVs perfectly.

Hello, everyone. When Leawo Blu-Ray Player was featured at GOTD recently, it took 6 full hours for my code to arrive – no kidding!! But it did arrive eventually and I did get to test it out. Overall, I do like Leawo’s Player, enough to purchase the license for lifetime updates.(Hint: The $10 you pay via sharewareonsale is for lifetime updates whereas the current $10 special offer in Leawo’s website only buys you 1 year of updates.)

The main selling points for me are:
    1. The beautiful simple, uncluttered interface.
    2. The extremely low CPU usage – great for those who want to turn an older computer into an HTPC.

I have left the full details of my testing and the pros and cons of this program in the comments section of GOTD, which you can still access. To be precise my comments are numbers 28, 34 and 35 by Gandalf. Number 35 might not even be on yet as I just posted this morning and sometimes it takes the moderators at GOTD a while to look things over.

@Anyone that uses a desktop email client and hasn’t got their email from Leawo: Please check your email directly from the web (e.g. check your Gmail email from http://gmail.com instead of in Outlook) because sometimes desktop email clients don’t import spam email correctly.

[@virerm] [@jake2831] I’m sorry but email deliverability is never 100% guaranteed due to aggressive spam filtering at different stages (and I’m not just talking about your inbox). The best advice I can give you is to use a different email. If you aren’t willing to do that, that is up to you.

Do you two happen to use a desktop email client?

[@Joseph] What do you mean? If you mean that would you need to download extra codecs to play videos/Blu-rays/DVDs with Leawo Blu-ray Player, then the answer is no — you shouldn’t have to download anything extra.
