[@buffo] Getting closer! Happened to open the Windows Security Alerts ==> Open Security Center, and found out that Outpost Security Suite Pro Firewall was active. (Still no icon in the taskbar). Rebooted into SAFE MODE and was able to go to “All Programs” and run “Outpost Security Suite Pro”. I was then able to register the program (had copied the registration key to a file that I could open in SAFE MODE) and it showed 347 Days Left – yeah, a bit short of a year. Anyway, still can’t figure out how to get to it outside of SAFE MODE (think it is running in Background Mode when you boot normally). Would be happy to hear if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!!

[@buffo] I’ve done the SAME thing – installed three times (two of which seemed completely successful) and still cannot get it to run. Go to “All Programs” and select “Enter registration key” or “Outpost Security Suite Pro” and nothing happens. Also tried to start from “Programs” folder with no results. Any ideas?? May have to reinstall the FREE version, haha.

maybe agnitum can say something about the results.
maybe all the test were done wrong, but i stick to the old saying: if there is smoke there is some fire.

I’m on an old system, and I’d like to hear from more people as to how burdensome on CPU Usage and RAM this program is. Thank you to those who have already supplied information on the program.

I have heard that Comodo firewall is too much trouble. What about this one?

This page is showing up black for me both on Firefox and CoolNovo, so I can only read it by blue-highlighting. :o(

    I mentioned the following:
    1. System RAM usage under 20 MB.
    2. Superb protection against DDoS and DoS attacks.

Maybe not to you, but it means something to people who spend considerable amount of time to find the right Security Suite. When you lick someone’s ass over the internet a bit much, it usually means it is the same person.
For others, a search on MalwareTips will provide you in-depth review regarding the Agnitum’s OSS.

[@CompNetTeach] Thank you for the input. I agree no matter were you look or read , is hit and miss. You have to make your own decision base on needs and how it performs on your OWN system and what your actual needs are. . Thanks for info. on Outpost as well. I may give it a try.

With respect to PCMag – I’ve found that their reviews have become hit & miss over they years. I find it amusing that they have had WebRoot as their Editor’s Choice for security software many times when I find that it randomly blocks Internet access (tested on multiple configurations) and can be really sluggish, and PCMag doesn’t think that high of Outpost, when over the last 5 years, I have been recommending Outpost to many.

Outpost is a VERY solid firewall with quite good IPS (mind you, there are some quirks with complex software when not installed with training mode on and the blocked software did not perform all actions during training mode – you may have to manually configure some rules (e.g. TFTPservers, SSL daemons), and manually setting up basic network rules when you have a laptop guesting on many networks). It may not have the fastest virus signature updates, but once in their database, there aren’t that many false positives/negatives and handling of FPs is flexible – this is a huge issue with some other anti-malware packages (especially for people using network tools). Plus, the free version of Outpost is not so crippled as to make it a waste of resources like some other packages.

So yes, get this – once you are used to it, you may really like it. You can make some really precise rule changes if you want to., so it’s definitely not as simplistic as many others.

[@Sammy] There are thousands of sources to review many things, including SW. We all have our favorite places. If Giovanni has decided he likes PC Mag..so be it. I a sure from following him for a long time this is not his only source of reviews/recommendations. Face it none of us have the time to spend on everything we want to know about. There is just to much information out there, and truthfully, much of it is deceiving-if not lies. I think Giovanni does his due diligence in helping people out. I wish I could speak with him in person. He seems to be a man of knowledge, wanting to know more, willing to help out other people..Just like myself. I applaud him. We don’t like stupid comments like you made. BTW, you didn’t reveal your source(s) as to where you get your advisement(s) . . Just a friendly gesture to G!. Next time be helpful in your comment .

I remember the days when Outpost Firewall was the best firewall in almost every test. It was pretty easy to use, but DAMN, advanced view…it had so many advanced options. I was paranoid back then, and told Outpost to block everything, but asked me for permission to let any program use internet. This was the best security I could imagine. Now I use ESET Smart Security and it doesn’t have even 20% of options Outpost Firewall had.
But I can’t guarantee that Outpost Security Suite is as good as the old Outpost Firewall. I don’t want to check it, because I don’t need to.

It downloaded nicely and I even have the registration number. Tried to install it and it found Avira, then said to contact them at agnitum. So I disabled avira and tried again. And again it said it couldn’t continue on but to contact them at agnitum. I doubt they mean that since it says no tech support.

Do I need to completely uninstall Avira before trying to install Outpost? Think Outpost will install if I unplug my machine from the internet? Not sure I’m happy being totally without AV while being connected to the ‘net. BTW the Outpost installer didn’t even notice my Windows firewall…but perhaps it didn’t get that far.

Advice please on getting past this refusal to load?
