The statement, permanently erase data from HDD is practically impossible. I have seen it where a HHD and been wiped 3 dozen times using this type of software, and then watched as the hard drive was rebuilt to operating level and all the data was retrieved. Granted this was using some very specialised equipment that next to no one has access to but it is still possible. Using this type of software I could pull the data from a hard drive after a single or more deletions, just using software freely available from the internet. The only secure way to delete data from a hard drive is to destroy it. SSD, camera and flash drives are a different matter, but you don’t need specialised software to permanently delete data from those. Just beware, never sell or give away a hard drive even if you think the data has been deleted.
