You might have misunderstood my question. I was asking about two different computers, for example, in different rooms, but connected to the same local router, and therefore programs could be transferred from one computer’s external drive to the other computer’s external drive.
I also like the idea you mentioned of having two external drives on one PC, one loaded with programs as the source, and the other as the target drive to transfer (those programs on the source drive) to, and both connected as external drives to a master PC. That Master PC would have its own OS, presumably with Fast Move installed on it, and thus the two external drives would not have any programs running that could interfere with the “Fast Move” operation. I know you are stating that Fast Move does not currently do this, but I think both connection methods would be beneficial to potential users of Fast Move. I hope you will consider this as a future enhancement.
In your reply, you used the terms Export and Import. Are you referring to using Fast Move to do the Export and Import? I presume so; otherwise, the user does not know exactly what to export, but Fast Move should. Am I correct that you are referring to Fast Move as the Export/Import program?
Still remaining unanswered is when there are two computers (both connected to the same router), and they have the default OS drive in the computers. The transfer of programs must go through the local network or through the Internet. Your data mentions the two PCs must be connected to the Internet, implying that the transfer would go through the Internet (would be slower than using the local network). I can understand using the Internet if two computers are in different locations (buildings, cities, states), even connected to different ISPs, but if within the same local network (same router), how are the programs transferred from source to target?
Other Clarifications:
The program name is Fast Move, but does it “move” (copy and delete from source) or “copy” (leaving the original intact)?
What sort of time does the Fast Move take to move programs from one PC to another? Granted, it depends on how many programs need to be transferred, but you must have some figures as examples. What are some typical numbers?
Transferring programs and all their associated files and registry settings has to be a monumental achievement. If the two computers have different motherboards, they will use different drivers, so if a program interacts directly with hardware, there could be expectations that the original install saved in config data that will not work as expected on the new computer. It may be possible to reset or re-initialize the settings for the new computer. Even so, some programs hide things in the registry, and it must be difficult to know what every program will need to be transferred to the new computer. There must be some cases where things don’t work out for a program (fails to run properly or not at all). What sort of average of success is Fast Move achieving in successfully transferring programs and they have no issues on the new computer?
