Well, avg has been bought by avast and avast, not long ago, was found to be selling your data and surfing habits to other companies, without your knowledge.
That alone, makes them shady company and a good member wrote that it will take some time to regain confidence.
For those who don’t mind about their data being shared around, both products (avg and avast) are successful in operating many years now.
