[@Jack Scott] If you already have ransomware, neither this nor any other backup taken AFTER getting the ransomware will help. You need to have been doing regular backups BEFORE getting the ransomware or virus or having your disk fail so that you can wipe the disk and restore from the last clean backup. Note: some ransomware will sit dormant for even 6 months before triggering. Restore a backup with that dormant ransomware and you will soon be in trouble again. You must find the ransomware and remove, or use a backup which is clean.
