Gary,
First thank you for your comment. As described in your post, it seems to me that there must be something seriously wrong with your Windows. However, it is possible that you have not paid attention to the labels on the window. It is possible that Audio Control may have entered in the “Annulled” mode, which is clearly indicated when it does that, and which happens if Audio Control cannot find any audio devices which it can access and control.
I can’t comment on why you cannot move the window – as explained sounds strange. There are various view modes, including ability to remove the app title bar in order to preserve screen space. In such cases the app is movable via the context menu. Please check the help file for details.
The reason why Audio Control can be launched multiple times simultaneously is to allow simultaneous access and control to multiple devices and audio-controls, without juggling through settings as with the standard Windows. Suppose that a PC has two or more sound devices. Then multiple instances of Audio Control can be launched in order to control the audio lines of the different devices, one or more instance per device/card, depending on the devises and what is needed. The user can then also adjust the appearance of each instance to a minimal (small) view, place it on top of all other windows, etc visual settings and have quick and simple audio volume control on all audio cards with direct click, as opposed to jump hoops and chase devices as it is on the standard windows. You can even add custom names to your audio devices, which is helpful if for example you have two audio devices of the same type and they appear listed with the same names, so you keep wonder which is which.
You can read the manufacture’s website at http://mbbsoftware.com/products/audio-control/4/default.aspx and the app help to see why things are made the way they are.
Hope this helps!
