On 2016-04-19 Smart GPS Sync 1.0.2 was given away here on SoS. I installed onto my C: drive, entered my e-mail address, received the key, entered it, and the Activation was successful.
Today (2017-03-26), seeing that version 1.0.3 was being offered, I figured it was a good time to take the 1.0.2 program off of the C: drive, so I decided that I would do an Uninstall, before installing the version 1.0.3 onto a different drive letter.
Before doing the uninstall, I started the version 1.0.2 program, but was surprised to see the message:
MAC Address issue
There is a product activation saved but it doesn’t fit to your system.
This can happen when you have your network adapters disabled. Try again after you have enabled them.
That was odd, because the Network adapter is not disabled (or I would not be able to access the Internet). Since it is the same adapter, the MAC Address has not changed either.
After clicking OK, the Activate Smart GPS Sync dialog appears. Since I would be installing version 1.0.3, I closed it, and went ahead with the uninstall of version 1.0.2.
When version 1.0.2 uninstall completed, I started the install for 1.0.3. When the program was started, I was surprised to see the same MAC Address Issue dialog show up again. I didn’t understand why it would show up again since this was a new install. After clicking OK, again, I was presented with the Activate Smart GPS Sync dialog. This time, after entering my e-mail address, I click the REGISTER button to get the new key, but instead, I get a new dialog stating:
Product registration has been denied.
The server sent:
“You already own Smart GPS Sync (Basic). You currently have 0 activations left.”
I was not aware that the 1.0.2 version would prevent me from installing the 1.0.3 version.
Now, I do not have access to either version of Smart GPS Sync.
Over the past year, several SoS offers have been updated versions of previously installed programs. I have always been able to successfully uninstall from the C: drive, and install the newer version to a different drive, activate the program, and be back in business. Why is the same not allowed in this instance?
