Zenith and USM have once again joined forces to present a mirrored DEFY chronograph for TimeForArt.
This timepiece features a miniature USM ball joint on the seconds hand and is powered by the legendary high-frequency El Primero 400 movement.
Following their initial collaboration, Zenith and USM have partnered again to create a unique timepiece for TimeForArt, a charity auction organized by the Swiss Institute. The new DEFY Chronograph USM – TimeForArt Unique Piece builds upon the architectural design concept of their first collaboration, reinterpreting the angular DEFY watch from 1969 with a striking, fully mirror-polished dial. The Zenith DEFY Chronograph USM – TimeForArt unique piece is a 37mm stainless steel chronograph powered by the El Primero 400 movement; it features a mirror-polished dial and is available in four signature USM colors. Accompanied by a mirrored USM Haller sideboard, the watch will be auctioned at Phillips in New York on December 5, 2026, with proceeds benefiting the Swiss Institute.
Although this partnership is only a year old, the two companies share surprisingly deep historical roots. The USM Haller modular system, centered on its signature steel ball-joint connection, was patented in 1965. Four years later, in 1969, Zenith launched the first DEFY watch and the El Primero automatic high-frequency chronograph. Inside the case beats Zenith’s El Primero 400 automatic high-frequency column-wheel chronograph movement, operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz) and offering a 55-hour power reserve.
