Iris Mini Pro is software for eye protection. It can reduce the color temperature of the screen and it can also reduce the screen brightness without increasing the flicker rate of the monitor (the so called PWM problem).
Think of color temperature like decreasing the blue light emmited from the screen. At night the blue light stops the secretion of melatonin, the hormone responsible for our sleep. What Iris does at night is based on your location it makes your screen a little more yellow or red depending on the value of the color temperature. This is like other softwares like f.lux, Night Shift and other blue light blocking softwares.
The other cool thing is about the brightness. When your monitor is working it flickers all the time. This flicker is usually at really high frequency and we don’t detect it. There is no way to make monitor without this flicker and this is not the actual problem. The problem is that most monitor makers control the brightness with decreasing this flicker rate (the so called Pulse Width Modulation). And the lower the frequency the worse for our eyes. This is the reason you feel eye pain, headaches and other problems from the PC. Well Iris mini can change the brightness without decreasing the flicker frequency which is really cool.

Reviews for Iris Mini Pro
Iris Mini Pro
I stay on my computer for long hours. While I would love to have my screen brightness set to the lowest possible scale, I got to admit that my screen is not really that good at hitting those comfortable lows that won’t leave me a dull headache at the end of the day. I resorted to using special glasses to tone down the problem. It seems I won’t have to do that any more with Iris Mini Pro installed.
Iris Mini Pro applies a translucent layer on your screen, a layer whose opacity and color changes with the changes you select. The result is tighter control on your screen brightness. Since the changes are rendered from the graphics card, it will work with any screen, be it on a laptop or on a multi-screen desktop environment.
Effective Regardless of the Screen Type
This little app will work on any type of screen or display unit. The trick lies in the fact that the dimming is applied on the graphics card level meaning that the screen will have to display a ‘veiled’ image regardless of its settings. You no longer have to invest on an expensive screen to achieve safe close quarters working brightness.
Simple on and off toggle
Clicking on the Iris Mini Pro icon at the system tray toggles the dimming effect on and off. The convenience of the on/off option means that changing from typing work to design work or watching a movie (things that need a brighter screen) is simpler, faster and more convenient.
Preset hue and brightness
The hue controls the color of the veil or dimming. This will vary from the regular daylight, to florescent, incandescent, halogen and amber. A brightness percentage lets you change the actual intensity of the brightness block hence letting you achieve the right screen brightness for your liking.
No Multi Screen Support
I would have really loved it if this app could recognize my multiscreen setup and let me set each screen to the preferred brightness level. One of my screens is for regular browsing and typing. I would want this dimmer. The other is normally for designing and movie watching and will do better with a brighter setting.
It would have been easier to customize the settings for each screen rather than let all screens get one master command from the single app.
Iris Mini Pro is an amazing lightweight app that set out to do an important job and did it mighty fine. It works like a charm, is light and will always stay out of the way when you do not need it. It is a strong tool to the power users who don’t want to end up wearing glasses in the near future.
For some time now, I have been looking for a way to dim my screen brightness further than what Windows provides. I even tried out Dimmer but it did live up to my expectations. Recently, I came across Iris Mini Pro and I knew I had to try it especially because its description state it will work without PWM flicker. Here is my take.
At a Glance
If installation procedures are anything to go by, Iris Mini Pro has one the easiest steps I have ever encountered. In a few seconds, I was done with the installation. After registering the package, it presents up to eight different screen lighting modes and four screen brightness levels. Apart from those modes, the program does not provide other detailed configuration settings.
Three Interesting States
After installing Iris Mini Pro, I had to access it from the system tray. However, I chose to have it on the Task bar. That way, it was easy to switch between it Manual, Automatic and Pause by just left clicking. I preferred the Automatic state since adjusts the screen brightness during night fall based on the time zone.
Comprehensive Collection of Screen Lighting Modes
The screen lighting modes range from Daylight, Sunlight, Fluorescent, Halogen, to Ember. Daylight has the brightness calibration while Ember is the dimmest. While choosing between these modes, it is necessary that you ensure Iris Mini Pro is in Manual state.
Need for a System Restart
Right from the download and installation process, it was clear to me that Iris Mini Pro thrives in its simplicity. However, I found it a little bit inconveniencing when I needed to restart the program after registration to activate all its pro features. It also has a Hidden features option that was less helpful.
If you have been looking for an application that can dim your screen brightness further than what the default settings provide, then Iris Mini Pro will provide you with a solution. The application is very easy to use. After installing it, choose your preferred screen lighting mode and brightness level. It is a worthy download to help you avoid eye problems caused by prolonged hours staring on your monitors.
