[@niko-las] Thanks for the heads up!

I haven’t installed it yet, but I did scan it with Avast and Malwarebytes. Both came up clean(?). I did Google Ashelper.exe and didn’t like what I read about it in some of the “virus forums”. For those who wish to remove it I ran across these directions at
http://windowsvc.com/bbs/board.php?bo_table=windowsvc&wr_id=22713 ***USE AT YOUR OWN RISK***

    Startup type : Registry Startup
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] or
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] or
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

Display Name : Aimersoft Helper Compact.exe
    Path : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Aimersoft\Aimersoft Helper Compact\ASHelper.exe

    How to remove startup entry.
Open a command prompt. (Run a command prompt as Administrator in Windows vista/7/8)
Copy the command lines between the ***’s and Paste.
    *********************************************************************
    echo Start
    echo #
    echo ######################## Default dirctory for x86 x64 ########################
    echo #
echo this command is default system32 directory for x86 OS or x64 OS
    cd %windir% & cd system32
    reg delete “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run” /v “Aimersoft Helper Compact.exe” /f
    reg delete “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run” /v “Aimersoft Helper Compact.exe” /f
    echo #
echo ######################## Change the dirctory for x64 ########################
    echo #
echo this command is x86 application’s registry for x64 OS
    cd %windir% & cd syswow64
    reg delete “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run” /v “Aimersoft Helper Compact.exe” /f
    reg delete “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run” /v “Aimersoft Helper Compact.exe” /f
    echo End
    ********************************************************************************************
    Done.!
    Close the command prompt.

The BBS is by someone who created a program called WindowexeAllkiller. Can read more info on it here if you like: http://windowexeallkiller.com/q.php?q=c-progra-1-sophos-sophos-anti-virus-sophos-detoured-dll

Windowexeallkiller might be a program that’s worth taking a look at, doing a review on, eh Boss? I’ll hold off installing this one for now until I hear, someone else can confirm that, it’s definitely “ware free”.

Tested. Sorry to spoil your lunch, but I can confirm that it installs ASHelper.exe, which is Adware (installs in this directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Aimersoft\Aimersoft Helper Compact). A start-up item is installed as WSHelper, which is incorrectly coded within the installer by the Wondershare developers, therefore in this case, it appears the adware will be broken from working as it should. What’s worse is if you uninstall a Wondershare (or Aimersoft) product, it does not remove its adware with it. Do a Google search on this executable if you want to learn more about it. Disappointing after asking the question below and it was denied. I found it installs Adware just like all Wondershare products have been doing over the last year or so. I’ll b keeping away from Wondershare and their affiliated brands from now on (Aimersoft, iSkysoft, etc, etc). Thanks, but no thanks. Here’s a few links of user forums where others have experienced this same adware:

Installed without a problem, but when I converted two pages of a PDF, I got a picture file embedded in a Word document, not editable text. Is there some setting I’m missing?

    Thanks!

Why won’t your server send the complete file? When starting the DL using the link in my confirmation email, Firefox tells me it’s 265 MB. But, on many tries yesterday & today, it receives end-of-file indication after the server has send only part, varying from 13 to 100 MB on different tries. How do I get the whole file?

I have been successful on a few, and I’m thinking it might work nicely on typewritten or laser printed pages that are straight/uniform text. It did not do well on my daughter’s report card (laser printed, but in tabled boxes). It mangled not only the arrangement but didn’t even pick out a handful of words. In other words, it wouldn’t have even been worth it to go in an touch up the words it mangled. There weren’t enough good ones go even start.

I tried it on the scanned auto emissions inspection, and it got much of the tabled (but not boxed) portions at the top, with only occasional substitutions such as r for T, etc. It mangled the bottom paragraphs, which should have been easy, but I think stray marks from the original scan made it try to keep that as an image. I’ve never been pleased with OCR except installations I’ve seen corporate clients install at the cost of thousands. This won’t change my mind.

For PDF conversions that originated as non-scanned items, this actually does better than many others I’ve seen that often mess up the formatting. I tried a PDF created from a web page using a PDF printer driver, and converted that to Word, and the results were admirable.

[@Giovanni] In total, I see 22 languages under OCR options in the program. Many of their names I can’t read or understand but I see English, Spanish, Italian, German, French, and Portuguese, to name a few.

And by the way: which languages does its OCR mudule actually support? There is no mention about that on its official sales page.

Thanks Ashraf for your reply! So can somebody test its OCR module? This function is crucial to me in order to decide whether or not download this 265 MB tool.

    [@niko-las] Welcome!

[@Giovanni] I haven’t tested the program myself but I know Aimersoft = Wondershare and Wondershare makes great products. Also, of course it can be downloaded for free until the 15th… otherwise why would I feature it?! We are running this with Aimersoft.

[@Akbar] Glad you like it and thanks for the feedback! Spread the word :-)

(Mr. Boss) – Reply to this comment#2

[@niko-las] Welcome! I don’t know why it is so big nor do I know of what adware you are referring to. As far as I know, Aimersoft PDF Converter Pro is clean.

    Thanks Ashraf,

Any idea why the file is so big? I believe Aimersoft is Wondershare – Same Same, but different. However, Aimersoft PDF Converter Pro is 265MB in comparison to Wondershare PDF Pro, which is 85MB. Weird. Have you tested it yourself ? Any chance of their adware being bundled as well, or has Wondershare/Aimersoft recently dumped their adware – from memory, the adware might be ASHelper.exe, which I think gets added to your start-up items in the registry (and should appear in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files).

    Cheers,
