[ Ancient Horology Reimagined on Modern Screens ]
"Guiji · Shichen" is an exquisite Android sundial and home screen widget deeply inspired by ancient Chinese horology and calendar science. Blending timeless astronomical wisdom with clean modern minimalism, Guiji translates the traditional 12 Shichen (two-hour solar intervals), 24 Chu-Zheng divisions, and 96 Ke (quarter-hour markers) onto an elegant digital sundial that seamlessly aligns with modern 24-hour time.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
◆ Key Architectural Highlights
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
1. Authentic 4-Layer Concentric Sundial Structure
• Layer 1 (Innermost Orientations): Eight Trigrams & Stems (Ren, Gui, Gen, Jia, Yi, Xun, Bing, Ding, Kun, Geng, Xin, Qian) strictly mapped to the 12 celestial sectors.
• Layer 2 (Traditional Shichen): The 12 Earthly Branches (Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, Hai) dividing the 24-hour day into 12 two-hour intervals.
• Layer 3 (Chu & Zheng Divisions): 24 sub-periods dividing each Shichen into "Chu" (First Half) and "Zheng" (Second Half).
• Layer 4 (Quarter-Hour Ke): 96 discrete Ke markers (each 15 minutes), preserving authentic historical timekeeping resolution.
2. Dual 12-Hour Modern Numerical Alignment
• Outer bezel features clockwise 1-12 modern hour numerals.
• AM Cycle (00:00 - 12:00): Hours 1 to 12 sweep clockwise, with numeral 12 precisely locked to the bottom meridian (Wu / Noon division).
• PM Cycle (12:00 - 24:00): Hours 1 to 12 sweep clockwise, with numeral 12 aligned with the top midnight meridian (Zi / Midnight division).
• Clean dial face without intrusive dividing lines.
3. Pointerless Sector Illumination
• No mechanical hands or projection needles.
• Current time is intuitively revealed through gentle, dynamic illumination across the active Earthly Branch sector, Chu/Zheng arc, and active Ke tick mark.
4. Three Handcrafted Aesthetics
• 【Ink Rice Paper (宣纸水墨)】: Warm, textured rice paper gradient, rich charcoal ink strokes, cinnabar red highlights, and subtle calligraphic typography.
• 【Obsidian Gold (玄黑曜金)】: Brushed obsidian metal face, champagne gold concentric markings, illuminated platinum window, and an authentic ruby pivot indicator.
• 【Black Titanium (黑钛曜石)】: Deep aerospace titanium brushed texture, constellation star maps, and gleaming golden accents.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
◆ Home Screen Widgets (AppWidget)
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
• Combo Widget (4x4 / 3x4):
Features the full sundial dial paired with an elegant time banner displaying modern digital time (e.g., 12:00), traditional solar hour name (e.g., Ri Zhong / Noon), and Ke status (e.g., Wu Zheng Chu Ke).
• Dial Only Widget (4x3 / 3x2):
Minimalist aesthetic showcasing the pure sundial circle, harmonizing with any wallpaper.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
◆ Extreme Battery Efficiency & Zero Tracking
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
• Low Power Architecture: Dispatches updates precisely aligned to 15-minute Ke intervals. Automatically refreshes on screen wake with zero background wake locks or standby drain.
• Fully Offline: Runs 100% locally on your device. Requests zero network permissions.
• Privacy By Design: Absolutely no personal data, device identifiers, or location information are collected or transmitted.
Experience the poetry of time and ancient oriental wisdom on your home screen.
