Peter BlaiseGuest.
Can anyone tell me what this program does?It opens to a blank window with [ File ] and [ ? ] as the only menu commands.
Then, and File > Open and File > Convert only say “no file’s found” no matter where I browse on my hard drive, and File > New only opens a new blank window.
Have they never used a computer before?
So drag and drop with at least 2 windows open ( cannot browse through the Bulk software interface itself ), or right-click in Windows File Explorer IF BulkZip is integrated into the Windows shell.
Right click on a directory, and, voila, it pops up a new windows and brags about how long it will take … is that 49 minutes or 49 seconds? … and how little space it will save versus 7Z (7Zip ) … NONE … and offers NO ZIP capabilities.
Wait, what?
With a name like BulkZIP, they offer NO ZIP capabilities?
What the farck?
Out it goes.
__________CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK FOR THE DEVELOPERS:
— Allow me to open files from your interface;
— allow me to select the compression type, including saving as universal ZIP, and password protection;
— allow me to select a destination filename and location;
— allow me to delete original files after verification ( otherwise, you are not saving me ANY space, you are jut making smaller copies, taking up more space, and you are not AUTOMATING anything, are you? ).
I’d like a batch operation where I can select root folders, and then Zip and delete originals for all my folders at once, creating Zip replacements for each folder, that way I can go through my backup hard drive, and compress all my ancient directories into Zip files, one for each directory, without having to do it all manually, over and over, for each directory …
… and I’d like to have the same batch scheme saved for reuse to refresh those Zip files when I do it again next year, adding newly backed up files from each directory to each Zip file, deleting the originals after verification.
Heck, why not just build an operating system overlay that lets Windows File Explorer browse through a Zipped universe where an entire drive has been compressed and all slack is gone …
… the way Stacker did years ago when it allowed me to put 3 GB of data on a 3 GB drive ( shocking efficiency at the time, to actually use all of the drive space you bought, no slack! )
TAKEAWAYS:
— BulkZip does not compress better than free 7-Zip
— BulkZip does not save in the universal .zip format for use anywhere, anytime, without special software ( .zip is a native format the the Windows Operating System reads and extracts )
— BulkZip has no security
— BulkZip does not remove originals, thereby NOT saving space, but essentially doubling space use until YOU delete originals manually.
Ouch.
NRFPTY ( Nerf Putty ) Not Ready For Prime Time Yet.
If I have gotten any of the BulkZip features and benefits set wrong, blame BulkZip, not me.
__________( PS — Ashraf, why do you have 2 areas to discuss the software? Reviews and problems belong TOGETHER, otherwise those with complaints here aren’t juxtaposed to ( possibly ) positive reviews there, and may never know what they are missing if they don’t successfully resolve their struggles. )
.mishasinGuestThanks Ashraf for another useful giveaway.
