The one thing it’s missing, which Aomei Backupper Pro has, is the ability to restore system image to another computer, even with different hardware. This makes it easy to copy operating system, applications, settings, data, and everything to a new computer.

Does it protect against Ransomware encryption of the backed up files?

I don’t mind the ACTUAL software, it has proven very useful over time – but what I don’t enjoy is that, as soon as you have installed the program, something comes up with the Ashampoo website about “Did it do what you wanted?” – too early to tell would be a nice button to have LOL, I’ve installed it, haven’t run it, don’t know if it will do what it said…for example if it’s a backup program, run a backup and THEN ask me if it works, or do a RESTORE and then ask if it works.

[@Frank Scott] If you have done a backup BEFORE you got the ransomware, yes. It does a FULL restore to before the ransomware happened, and I would take it off the internet too (Ethernet or Wi-Fi).

[@Frank Scott] if you have backups made using one of the supported cloud storage providers and don’t have a local client for that same provider and account so there is no enumerable file system interface to the backup files then yes the backups will be protected against ransomware encryption. If you use a local drive as backup destination then no those won’t be protected from ransomware encryption. This is “similar” to aomei cbackup and backupper pro combined with a lifetime no updates license.

I’m glad to hear some of you are having success with Backup Pro 26. For me it was useless. After I installed it, it wouldn’t make a backup due to an external “hard drive being corrupt.” I did a complete format of the drive and tried again. This time it repeated the same problem. I went out and bought a new 7 TB Western Digital external hard drive. Tried again, it then said my connection was faulty. I ordered new UBC-C cords for the EHD. Tried again, another problem message. I finally uninstalled it and found an easier backup software to use. Don’t get me wrong; I have lots of Ashampoo’s software, and I like them all. It’s just this one must have hated my computer. Tech Support was useless; I never did get the software to work. I hope you have better luck.

No issue installing. However i’ve read i should remove all schedules in previouse versions b4 installing 26. which i did. I am not sure if i should use Aomei and Ashampoo together , which i do… So far so good. No request to install Ashampoo App straight to the Backup Pro installation.

[@William] Where did you source your external hard-drives and what program did you use to validate the drive? I recommend Validrive from GRC.COM as it validates massive drives very efficiently and does not place undue stress on the drives. MANY drives, especially large capacity drives available online are fake and contain only a fraction of the stated storage and may use pre-owned SSD chips and hacked firmware and hard drives with errors. I just successfully completed a backup of my system drive to one of my other SSDs and achieved approximately 60% compression and the backup immage verified correctly.

I’ve tried the real-time backup option on my Documents folder and it notices SOME changes but not others… change the modified date by adding a space to a log file and saving did NOT trigger a backup while refreshes of allmynotes.cnfg file for no legitimate reason does trigger a backup. This program and functions are relatively undocumented despite the manual.pdf file online. I note the reports settings have insufficient granularity in the details of the reports you either have every file in the backup set listed even if it’s unchanged and therefore NOT included in this backup set or no details of any of the files included or excluded in the current backup set. What is NEEDED is to report what files and folder WERE included in the backup set and to ignore the ones that had no changes and were not included in the backup set. There is no easy way to find out from the UI what files are actively being backed up in real-time mode. Report generation with all details enabled so you can see what files were and were not included in the backup set takes ages to generate when there are several thousand files in the backup set.

I keep getting an error message when backing up my C: drive, so I am now using “O&O DiskImage Professional V 17” or “Paragon Hard Disk Manager”, although the latter also sometimes gives error messages.
Question for Willem: what do you use, a more user-friendly backup program?

I’ve tried and used a lot of backup programs, going back to GHOST years ago, and used PARAGON a lot, but found the most versatile and problem-free to be “EaseUS TODO Backup Free”. It’s always available from their website, and updates several times a year even on the free version. It can backup quickly and has always restored properly even to different drive types. There’s several levels of paid versions with higher functions that I’ve not needed. It’s been my exclusive backup for 3 years now.

[@TK] I bought the drive(s) from Amazon. I don’t know anything about validating the hard drive. I don’t think you need to go through a dog and pony show to do a back up. I tried both versions of Ashampoo’s Back ups. The only one I thought was decent was way back. I can’t even remember which version it was, but 25 and 26, for me, was worthless and not worth the time to screw around with trying to get them to work.

I ended up using the free version of EaseUS TODO backup Free. Couldn’t be easier.
