[@DJ] I don’t think I’m quite understanding fully what you are saying here? Databit Password Manager does include Automatic Backups of your databases to wherever you’d like including any good secure cloud platform. Let me explain.

When making copies of the Password Group database from the Home screens tools menu, it copies the entire database and all home screen settings including your Master Password for that Password Group database.(encrypted of course) This way you can easily install it to another computer, for synchronization over any storage device that is not on your computer, including cloud services like OneDrive or Dropbox.

When you set the path to the “Group Database Backup / Restore / Synch Folder” in the settings for each database – default C Drive, but we do not recommend leaving it there. Whenever any edits (changes) are made to that database and you exit back to the home screen, the database is automatically backed up to the path you set. It does not include an entire copy of the Password Group, just the password database only. If a mistake was made, and some data was changed that you did not want to change, you simply login to the Password Group database and select [Restore…] from the tools menu.

Within the settings menu for a given database, you must however first enable the Auto Backup option.

I hope this explains how the backup system works.

Will this work/synch with Android/IOS? Is there an app that can be installed on phones/ipads?

    Thank you.

[@John] Sorry, currently only Windows, but that is a future goal.

We run it on high speed internet and very fast computers, so we may not be seeing what you’re seeing. If you could be a little more specific that would also help, thank you.

    @John
    >”So how do you remember all your passwords if you don’t use a password manager?”
    >”I’m always anxious to read how people manage their passwords.”

Here is how I do it.

There are some important comments made regarding a single point of failure, even if some or all of the manager is stored online. Most password managers have a recovery method, such as installing the free or limited edition, but these always take some additional time when you are probably panicking that everything is lost. I have a solution I have used for several decades, and it has not failed me yet.

The idea is simple. For any website, software program, or whatever needs a login/password, has a common name, be it your bank’s name, a music service, software shareware site, or whatever else you encounter, this works. You just need some mental Magic.

You need to have some important things that you will always remember, and you need to have an order for them, which could be the date of occurrence, … or alphabetical, … or some defined order that you will not forget. Once you have that, now you can incorporate the new item (website, bank login, …, etc.). You can insert it into the others anywhere you want as long as you are always consistent (e.g., insert between 2nd and 3rd, making it the new 3rd item in the list).

Now, perform your Mental Magic using simple algorithms. Your Mental Magic is some algorithm simple or complicated as long as you do not ever forget it for each item. It could even be a word. It could as simple as applying each step of the algorithm on each of your items, saving the result of each item in a new string. For a word, use the position of each letter in the alphabet as your start. It will determine what number you apply to each item. If the word is short, you start from the beginning until all of your items are complete. You can decide which letters should be lower case or upper case, and where to insert numbers or special characters. Your algorithm will decide which special character to insert, or when to use a different case of the letters.

What you end up with is a sequence of letters, numbers, and special characters. The characters would always be the same for all except the new item you introduced, so if you can remember them fine, otherwise calculate them until you can. Once you have your initial sequence, you need to apply your second algorithm using the new item as a seed. In the end, you will have a unique password for any site, software, or anything that needs a password. You will need to write this down only once to give to your attorney handling your will, so that the information can be passed to relatives.

If you come up with simple algorithms you can learn to do this in your head without having to write anything down. Therefore, as soon as you know the name to start with (e.g. bank), you can type out the characters almost instantly. You will never need to worry about a single point of failure, or a time delay to get back on schedule again.

Of course, these steps are just one way of creating a unique password. You can alter them in any manner as you please to come up with your own version.

Despite having a method of doing these in my head, I still test any password manager offered to us. It is always good to know what is available.

    Hi,
In the SoS description, it is stated:

“Install it on more than 1 computer and you can easily synchronize your password group databases over networks, cloud services such as OneDrive and Dropbox or you can simply use a flash drive or other portable backup media.”

After downloading from SoS and installing, accessing the Help (?) option in the menu on the top, it shows the following text:

    Pre-Activated License Notice
This version of Databit Password Manager was downloaded from SharewareOnSale.com
There are no usage time limits, but if you would like Lifetime Updates & Synchronization, You would need to get a new license.
Once received, you may activate it here.

After reading this notice, my conclusion is that the Synchronization feature is not included although that restriction is not only not mencioned in the SoS description, but that feature is mentioned.

–> Anyone can confirm if Synchronization feature is included in the SoS “version” ?

    Thanks

    Hi,

After installing Databit Password Manager I restart my PC, because I had a notification to do it in order for the anti-virus (Avast Free) to be updated and after the restart, the anti-virus showed the following alert:

    Threat blocked

We’ve blocked dpmstelk.exe because it was infected with IDP.HEUR.25

    Threat name IDP.HEUR.25
    File path C:\Databit Software\dbengine\dpmsteik.exe
    Process C:\Databit Software\dbengine\dpmsteik.exe
    Detected by Behavior Shield

    – Has this occurred to anyone ?
    – Is this a false positive ?
