Whenever I launch this app after unzipping the downloaded file, Mac OS 10.10.5 tells me the file is damaged and that I should throw it away.

[@Al Chou] Make sure the download is fully downloaded and make sure you are extracting the ZIP properly. Sounds like you have a corrupt download.

[ @Ashraf] I downloaded it a second and even a third time, waited for it to be fully downloaded, and still got the same behavior….
