Registration gives a 10 day extension and the program is crippled unless you purchase.

    1) Why am I not given the option to install this on a flash drive?
    2) How do I find the version? ABOUT does not show it.

When will softorbits developers learn to program windows applications PROPERLY they install all their products in an unprotected location rather than the proper C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) hierarchies. There is no LEGITIMATE reason to install software that requires admin rights to operate into a location like:
    C:\Users\[Username[\AppData\Roaming\SoftOrbits\SoftOrbits Flash Drive Recovery
any malware executed from logged in user account, without right elevation can infect software installed in such locations and to not allow the end user to change the installation location to a better more secure location or a non-system drive is unacceptable! Better to extract the installer using innoextractor and putting the app files where you want them by manually installing them.

Program crashed when I pressed The Recovery button under Windows 10 64 bit. I wanted to recover a corrupted USB flash drive.

[@TK] the developers have embedded a non-admin requesting manifest into the main executable so it does NOT request UAC rights elevation on execution, the developer has tried to fix that error by adding an external .manifest file that if it were embedded into the executable would have made it request elevated rights… this is a basic mistake! as is installing programs into users appdata\roaming hierarchy. The program HAS to be run as an administrator in order to see attached flash drives and be able to access the storage media in a way that enables access to individual sectors to scan for deleted or otherwise lost files. Clearly softorbits do not know how to embed customized manifests into their dev’ projects and do not know where to put their executable files so they are protected from non-elevated processes. Heck it’s possible with third party tools to replace or add a manifest to an executable, they could have done that and then signed the exe… Should we therefore trust them with our computers stability and data? I think not!

[@bromberg] you can always extract the app folder with innoextractor and then copy the app folder over to a flash-drive or other external media… remember you’ll have to allow the program network access and activate the license on the target machine as the license will be stored in the registry and you will need to right click and run as an administrator if you want it to have a chance at seeing other flash drives, personally I’m deleting it as it is not properly written/built/installed which means their developers do not respect the security and consistency of my windows PC installation.

On the giveaway page the Technical details claim this is version 3.7 but the version number is not embedded in the programs meta-data or in the programs user interface. It does not see an M2 SATA SSD FLASH drive in a USB enclosure… time for me to move on from this amateur program with bad programming… Thankfully none of the bad programming seem to have any damage to my system, but I won’t forget how bad it was and how untruthful their websites claims were about it.

one more post to show how unprofessional softorbits are at maintaining their software from the readme.txt in the installation folder:

    INSTALLATION

    1. This software was tested under Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6,
Windows 2000 Service Pack, Windows XP and Vista operating systems.
Correct operation under Windows NT 4.0 without Service Pack 6 and
Windows 98 is possible but not guaranteed.

Err Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP and Vista not windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 but it might work on windows 98! of course it won’t! It’s linked/built for NT 6.0 (Vista) and above at last building of it. They did not re-work it for the new dev system which is why it still has the wrong manifest embedded in it. And yet they still expect people to pay for it!

[@TK] So you’re saying that the flash drive I use to install Flash Drive Recovery (FDR) on will have to have access to the PC’s Registry where I did the install? If so, that doesn’t make FDR very portable, and with a date of 2014 in the ABOUT screen, it makes FDR seem pretty ancient. So I’ll follow your lead and pass on this one.

About the only good thing that came of this was that you put me on to InnoExtractor, which I’d never heard of, so thanks for that! I see where IE displays all the files in the installer, but does that mean I can just move and then execute the ‘exe’ file to the thumb drive and expect the installation to occur?
