The link provided in the technical details has nothing to do with this giveaway. You simply get a small settings box to define a TEMP folder in memory. Nothing more.

So, it’s pointless; I uninstalled it immediately.

[@HarFanG] Shareware on Sale used the old copy of version 1.x
The product for give away is version 2.0.1 which has been greatly improved, it is now compatible with all programs (including browsers) and has no longer a limitation on the amount of RAM used, instead it automatically deletes temporary files that are no longer in use.

Maybe interesting to protect the SSD’s life and accelerate the access to the temp folder. This version is the light one, not the pro one. It asks to install dokan 2.3.1. If you have an older version of dokan, dokan 2.3.1 won’t install. First uninstall the old dokan but it is quite difficult to uninstall. What a mess !

[@Robert] This program should work with any dokan version 2.x but of course it is always better to use the latest version.

I think this application is wonderful! and it looks like I will be purchasing the Pro version… However, @developer, I kindly have a few questions for you:

    1. Does the application use complex algorithms like LRU (Least Recently Used) or LFU (Least Frequently Used) to evict old cache content, or does it operate as a simple FIFO? -I really need to know for a reason-
    2. You mentioned on your website that the app accelerates random reads. Does this mean it focuses more on caching (tiny) random disk reads and prioritizes them over (big) sequential reads? if so, that’s incredible..
    3. Why, when I use the Pro version with Firefox, any file I download with an .EXE extension becomes corrupted?

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

    To answer your questions:
1 It is LRU. In the lite version files are expelled 5 minutes after they have been used last, in the pro version they are only expelled if there is lack of memory and you can choose if they are deleted or written do the disk.
2 This is an option in the Pro version, files are loaded as a whole in memory (if available) so any random reads after that are as fast as memory copy.
3 That should not happen, the pro version doesn’t touch exe files, but maybe they are first written do ram with another extension before renamed to exe. If this happens in the windows temporary folder I recommend you use the lite version here that is now on free giveaway since the lite version doesn’t have this issue. This problem is expected to be solved in the next release of the pro version.

I am curious as to why upon attempting to install this giveaway, I get the message that this software has an unverified publisher or whatever and are you sure you want to install?

Software from big software companies is usually signed with a digital certificate that is recognised by Microsoft. These certificates are expensive, for this reason software from smaller publishers (like GiMeSpace) are seldom signed. The message you get is that the software is not signed. Signed or not signed, it doesn’t make a difference, you should check all your downloads on virustotal to make sure you don’t download dangerous things.

I find this and the “PRO” so called edition “GiMeSpace RAM Folder Pro 2.4.1” to be pointless, the TEMP folder is too restrictive in size as many installers will exceed the TEMP folder allocation with their use of the TEMP folder and the RAM Folder Pro did NOT intercept writes to the folders I selected like all the event folders… WE don’t need a permanent record of those event logs only Microsoft telemetry uses them so I want those writes to go to RAM and never get writing to SSD drives reducing their life span for MS benefit not mine. plus some other folders… I used to request a giveaway of what looked more useful on paper GiMeSpace RAM Folder Pro 2.4.1 but I don’t care any more as it’s not as good in reality as on paper. This is just MY personal experience, yours may differ if you don’t choose folders it cannot cache.

True you should NOT trust that a program is safe, good, well programmed and not illegal malware just because it is digitally signed as badware and malware makers do not find the cost of signing to be prohibitive like gimispace does. What it does do is ensure the file has not been hacked by a third party if it’s signed with two different hashes… a single hash is not good enough as it is possible to compute content to create a single specific hash collision but MUCH more difficult to calculate collisions with two different hashing algorithms. REMEMBER it is always possible to have the signing authority revoke a signed piece of malware so a valid digital signature is better than no signature and getting a clean report from virustotal DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE FILE IS SAFE!!!!! since ALL anti-virus engines that work via patterns matching are always behind the curve and malware is ALWAYS OUT THERE IN THE LIVE BEFORE ANY ANTI-MALWARE VENDOR CAN GET A SAMPLE AND DEVISE PATTERNS TO DETECT JUST THAT NEW MALWARE. Also by stubbornly refusing to sign your products you are left with no other choice than become a badware developer by having to require your windows 11 users disable it’s requirement for a valid and non-revoked digital signature before it will execute an executable. It may not be popular for bloody minded anti-signing developers but it is a valid layer of security and you DON’T have to go and pay Microsoft to get your exe’s signed as there are plenty of other signing authorities out there at various prices! I’ve see some wannabe so called Doctors of computer science so bloody minded about their perceived injustice about the many signing authorities that they take it upon themselves to digitally sign their own product for distribution with a test self-signed certificate and then go on to install their own self-signed certificates into their end users CA store, breaching their customers trust and possibly breaking computer misuse laws but also corrupting their end users CA stores and potentially reducing their security strength.

You did not notice this is a new version 2 that has no size limitations any more.
Your security concerns are not valid because if there is new malware out there that is not detected by virustotal then it can also show up in an installer that is digitally signed. This has happened before. And finding digitally signed malware is more common than malware that is not detected on virustotal.

I once had a Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade fail because GiMeSpace RAM Temp Folder was still running in the background. The program modifies Windows’ TEMP folder, which can cause problems during major updates.

Therefore, don’t forget to disable or uninstall this program before performing a major Windows upgrade. Also check whether it starts automatically with Windows.

A quick check beforehand can save you a lot of trouble.

There is actually a reason why downloaded software that is not signed is more safe and that is this: Windows smartscreen trusts downloads that are digitally signed, it flags all downloads that are not known and not signed. So software publishers who do not sign have to submit all their files to microsoft to get it whitelisted in smartscreen. Each time I publish a new file I have to get it scanned by ms so smartscreen doesn’t block it. So that means that all user downloads of files that have not been signed and are getting through smartscreen can be considered save because they are whitelisted meaning they have been analysed by ms and considered safe.
On the other hand digitally signed files that get through smartscreen are not guaranteed to be safe at all. Something I noticed many years ago when I downloaded the famous signed installer of CCleaner that was infected.
