    Hi Ashraf,
It ‘s quite strange to notice that the previous version of Home (v7) I Downloaded 7 months earlier, in February, from SoS weighed 50 Mo, as this v8 version weigh 118 Mo (more than double its previous size).
Do you have any idea ?
    Regards,
    Stephane.

[@Stephane Robert] Hi Stephane, that’s because of the new photo decoration templates – there are over 400 of them in v8. You’ll find them under Decoration > Greeting Cards.

At least it appears to work on raw image files.

The [ Effects and Filters ] section does not have an on-off toggle for each feature, as it is, you have to [ Cancel ] out of the entire selection control to deselect any choice, making it hard to browse and preview effects.

Printing is not very sophisticated, I’d have to open Windows Calculator to reverse measure how to resize the printout to fit a particular frame or mat, but ‘mm’ measurements suddenly appear when manually clicking and dragging on the preview image’s borders, so conversion of my frame / mat size to mm let’s me know what target to manually set … but there is no “remember this setting”.

There is a “straighten horizon, draw a line to rotate to level” feature, but there’s no on-screen alignment reference, and it only aligns to horizontal lines, not vertical lines, so straightening up a building viewed at it’s corner is nye on impossible.
ility to overwrite originals — NEVER OVERWRITE ORIGINALS, you lose image information with every resave!

    No noise reduction.

It does not appear to have any cataloging or import or batch or web album connect features, but is only a “find it through windows explorer and edit one image at a time” program.

So, it opens one image at a time, can open raw, has some gross tweaking tools, can resize a print task with mm precision.

Otherwise … well, it’s not very sophisticated or competitive with even free Picasa ( downloadable from filehippo.com, filepuma.com, filehorse.com, download.com and so on, with add-ons, too ).
    __________

PS — The SOS downloader failed and reverted to direct download.

Peter B thanks for your comments. No batch? hmm killer for me. Original write up implies it does batch. I tried the earlier, smaller version, thinking it might have batch and it doesn’t so put app in no pile.
Won’t bother with this one and its extra bloat decoration size. But yrmv.
Do appreciate the offer. Hoping the write ups will be more detailed.

[@Peter Blaise] Hi Peter, thank you for your feedback, this is very important to us!

In fact, there is a batch processing option. Check out this short video lesson: http://home-photo-studio.com/actions-batch.php
    Hope you’ll find it helpful.

The software doesn’t overwrite originals unless it is specified in the settings. But the default setting is to suggest that the user saves file as… and creates a copy with a new name. Just to be on the safe side, check what you have under Edit > Settings.

As for the other features you mention, I’ll forward this to the project manager and we can hopefully add these in future updates.

I decided to download this mainly for collage creation, but collage and 3d composition is not available in this package. Just in case someone wanted this software for the same reason.

I wouldn’t blame such a simple editor for not being a raw developer, but pretending to be one is cheating. After opening a very common CR2 file, the program is actually showing – and editing – only the embedded (highly compressed) jpeg preview image. Which is worse than nothing. I have noticed this also with one of the previous versions of this program. Such “approaches” were the reason I made a couple of raw files with fake preview jpegs. Although the difference is easy visible without that. End of testing.

Thank you for the most excellent HOME graphic software I have seen in a long long time. Nice 118 Meg super fast download and quick install. Had my first picture up added some effects and off I went to print it out. 10/10 from a simple home user view, just the right amount of drop down menus and lots of fun features. THANK YOU :)

As stated above, this is a crippled version of the software. It touts many interesting features, but once downloaded and installed, these features are only available if you purchase the software.
