[ @Ashraf] from PC Trek product page:

    “System requirements: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11 | 256MB RAM | 20MB HDD Free Space | 400MHz or higher CPU”

    Not:

    “Supports Windows 7, 8/8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit and 64-bit)”

    as your site says.

Tested it on Vista and it installs and activates 6 month license fine… but crashes when saving search results… Under win10 saved txt file of the deep scan is only of limited use as it does NOT include the full registry path of the key found but uses a subset of the registry path as the product name which A: is of little help in transferring the license and B: is of little help in identifying the product when the product name is something like”

    “Item: 23
    Product Name: Microsoft\VS\ServiceModules\0306CFDB0A3754671F3CF339F3E68803\Settings\LicenseKey
    Product Key: 38527388836EACDA5EDBFFD314BDCB8DD1”

What product is that? What registry path is that precisely? Neither can be inferred from the data provided!

    Dear TK,

Regarding your Vista issue, the software uses the default Windows API function from the COMDLG32.DLL library to display the Save dialog, which has been supported since Windows XP. As you mentioned, it works on your other laptop, and we can confirm that it works on Windows XP, Vista, and later versions in our testing. Therefore, the issue may be caused by a DLL version incompatibility or certain folder restrictions that prevent the proper function from being called.

As for the deep registry scan, the software tries to find patterns that resemble product keys, serial keys, etc., in the registry. If it identifies such a pattern, it displays the results from that key. In most cases, the product name is included in the registry path, helping the user identify which product it belongs to. However, this does not mean that all detected patterns are valid or existing keys. Sometimes, the software may find patterns that look like serial numbers but are actually something else.

    Best regards,
    PC Trek

The signature on “Product Key Recovery Tool History” bears the name of “Aco Sterjov”
“PCTrek” physical address, it is not available nor is that of “Aco Sterjov.”
On the other hand, on “Aco Sterjov” web “https://www.sterjosoft.com/products.html” programs are free individually, including portable versions!
    What is the original web?
Why pay for something that is free elsewhere?

Not very good software, I wouldn’t even say it’s mediocre, junk software is what it is , didn’t pick up HALF the registered software keys on my system, it lasted all of 5 minutes on my system. I wouldn’t pay a dime for this.

[@fpi] I would say the site with the free software only is the original and Aco Sterjov went to work for pc trek and brought some of his/her free programs to the pot and reworked the user interfaces and added a few programs to the database file… the original free version properly saves, under win10, the full registry path to the suspected key while the new commercial version does not… both seem to crash under my vista system when saving the results, the earlier one just vanishes on saving even to the portables location the new version throws up a debug or close error alert but with no information why it crashed the new one knows 1303 applications and the older 2021 free one knows 1235, while BOTH have feature3 to update the database as the software is curated and new applications key locations are found neither have a new version of the database available to download… was a nice idea but no work was done after the program was built and signed in each case. Just checked hippoedit was able to save a copy of the database without issues under the vista system that both versions seem to have a crashing problem with saving the output file… so I doubt there is anything wrong with the vista system… I’ll probably try some Aco’s other programs and see if they all share the same bug…

[@PC Trek] The version of COMDLG32.DLL on the vista system is 6.0.6003.23566 it came direct from Microsoft catalogue as an update for Windows Server 2008 x86. As you probably know Microsoft do not sign that file but I have no reason to believe its been corrupted by any external actor. Last modified date 16/09/2025 03:53

[@TK] Tried a few sterjosoft.com portable programs and they all did not function properly under my Vista server… I did not try them all just the ones that were sort of relevant to the system wifi password recover… would not load… chrome history browser did not show any history of portable chrome or portable Comodo Dragon browsers… mail passwords failed to find anything and threw an parsing error on a json file for thunderbird… moving on…

    [@TK] Thanks for your details.
I have test the program, it works, but for me it a waste of time.
The result is very limited, and far from a professionnal program.
The “Application request” menu and the “Suggest New” submenu, ask me about its usefulness!
The menu icon for launching for searching a new version is a clock, a choice that also puzzles me.
The GUI should be modernized and better designed, and a help menu could be added.
