VCap Downloader PRO is an outstanding downloader. I’ve been using it for quite some time now, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it. I purchased the full version a while ago, and I’m very satisfied with it.

[ @Ashraf] It did install, although one dialog box hidden meant it wouldn’t accept clicking on the FINISH button – until the ‘child’ dialog has been clicked. Tested it on a couple of vids, one downloaded and the other didn’t. but that’s because some of the sites are very ANTI-downloading…

VCap downloader emulates a Chrome browser to access web sites and attempts to identify media files and streams loaded by the page, which can then be captured in a high speed download. It often takes several seconds to identify streams, so have patience. It can download both the audio and video parts of the stream, and audio files have ID tag information added where available. It isn’t always successful, but it succeeds more often than most other downloaders in my experience. It’s a constant game to keep up with changes by popular sites that attempt to disable downloaders though, so it’s worth paying to get updates if you like it.

[@Phil K] why would a video downloader be installing winrar? that is an archiving program, nothing to do with videos or video downloading… if you want winrar for some reason go download it yourself!

weird I just tried to post an in depth comment on this and it did not appear! A bit like when it tried to post on on the claimed AI áúdit that turned out to be a blocked word, ashraf could you publish a list of banned words please as it makes commenting difficult if some random word is banned from appearing in comments so the entire comment is discarded rather than the offending word being censored with random characters…

Because this uses an OLD embedded chrome version 96 it uses an unnecessary bespoke browser cache that is not properly managed by the program and theoretically dependant upon your usage of the program could grow indefinitely!
    The path at

    C:\Users\[yourusername]\AppData\Roaming\VCapDL\CefCache

periodically you SHOULD delete the folder as it can become massive and really the majority of files stored in it are never needed again, the developers should have disabled the cache feature of the ancient CEF when they incorporated it into their product.

    @TK and others:
I also noticed TK´s mentioned issue about the increasing trash in

    C:\Users\[yourusername]\AppData\Roaming\VCapDL\CefCache

better watch it – at least time by time.

Smart scan said it couldn’t verify the publisher, so it was deleted. Seems to be a trend here. Hope the Devs can clean it up.

@Peter Guest and @xoted Guest: new programs, no matter how well certified, need to cross a familiarity threshold for Microsoft security to consider them ‘safe’, plus some programs, if they do certain things, such as interpret web page contents or download other things ( here, like web videos ), will always be considered inappropriate by Microsoft standards.

VLCap is not a virus nor malware, and Microsoft security warnings are not identifying a virus or malware, but only Microsoft’s own unfamiliarity with new programs, and Microsoft’s own threshold of what programs ‘ought’ to do or not.

So we decide, and we use free VirusTotal to scan ALL our downloads, and if we join and sign in at VirusTotal, we learn to read the expanded tabs to interpret a program’s behavior.

Oddly enough, there are Microsoft programs that have multiple ‘hits’ on VirusTotal and are considered security risks, viruses, or malware by a number of security scanner programs, so any program could be considered worth warning about by any standard – look at Microsoft’s own Format and Delete and other commands that can DESTROY DATA, OH MY!

Think of a chef holding a knife – a security warning, but that’s how they prepare food, that’s what they do, use knives appropriately.

So just like driving a car is a risk, just like walking outdoors is a risk, just like walking in our own bathrooms is a risk, we learn what precautions best protect us, we learn what behaviors of our own best protect us.

We don’t have to download videos from broadcasters who otherwise offer no download option for us to watch in our own time – TIME SHIFTING, a perfect legal concept since the US Supreme Court approved the Sony Betamax video recorder for personal use, but video and movie publishers still complain.

Think of VCapDL as a Sony Betamax recorder, and enjoy.

@TX, PLEASE try again. I use free ClipDiary to save my text in progress, and if a web page such as Ashraf’s SharewareOnSale throws my hard work away, I can try, try, try again just using my paste buffer and plying. We treasure your shared insights, keep ’em coming!

Yes, I had 49 MB cache left over after downloading a 175 MB video.

    Try:

app: config or the three bars, General, [ Clear Browser Cache ]

In Config, under Downloads, we can select a Folder For Temporary Files.

For me, the cache was significantly emptied when I selected the above options, especially after then exiting and restarting VCapDL, as recommended.

Note that the video was broken into 1044 files by the web publisher, which makes it packagable for them to ‘stream’ but makes it otherwise inaccessible for direct download.

    Good job, VCapDL!

    But no subtitles.

    Waaaa!

OK, we’re at version 0.1.48 Build 7110 ( 26 Jun 2026 ), which, by my standards, is basically BETA testing.

So, what will it take to get SUBTITLES?

Though free MPC-C 2.5.0 found subtitles on the web and downloaded an SRT file for this video, I’d expect VCapDL to get and incorporate SUBTITLES.

    More work to do.

    @Ashraf
, please play with the posting scheme, and maybe the history scheme, and give us richer support for community dialog, along with some awareness that repeat programs such as VCapDL are not new to us, but where are the comments for previous versions? Shouldn’t those be quickly accessible for new folks to see how far we have come with the VCapDL program as we try each version and give the developer feedback here?

    – – – – –

@VCapDL – I note some [ Download] buttons bring up a [ BUY PRO ] offer as if this is incapable of downloading some things, in my case, subtitles. Is that intentional, a quirk, or a sign of an awkwardly designed web video that you have no control over? Others may check my sample test ( remove spaces )

    https : // wetaplus. org/show/a-citizens-guide-to-preserving-democracy/video/a-citizens-guide-to-preserving-democracy-hcrswk/

I’d be happy with subtitles recorded permanently in the video, though I prefer all languages to be available through the playback program menu controls internal ‘subtitle’ feature.

    More work to do.

The normal Vcap downloads and therefore distributes illegally GPLv3 Licensed FFMPEG in a closed source product when they SHOULD HAVE USED THE LGPLv3 BUILD! The SOS pre-activated build includes the stolen and illegally distributed GPLv3 FFMPEG.EXE and DLLs. They also use an outdated, insecure version 96 of CEF to allow compatibility with old versions of Windows 7 or above, meaning using this to download videos from some disreputable sites could leave you vulnerable to malware infection. And could leave you excluded from other sites that no longer support such an ancient chrome browser due to its incompatibility with modern browsers and its inherent security risks. Wow just tried to download a video from youtube using the version they supply on their website and that video had been downloaded before, after downloading for a bit it seemed to be spinning it’s wheels and then pooft the program vanished with no error alert box, nothing just gone. Tried the same video using the SOS provided installer and it reported the download failed for an unknown reason and in the list it had an error code INET28.
