Be alert while installing… this tries to install in a Users folder. Grrr…

I have always found the ZD Soft [sic] product ZD Screen Recorder to do a decent job.What is better. This is not only trying to install in a Users folder. This is only installing in Users folder saying: The installer has insufficient privileges to access any other directory without adminitration login, who I am!

Someone is totally in sane. Don’t even make me tell who! You have your time, Screen Maker to help now I guessIn addition to the already publicised BAD installation practise this steals and distributes illegally an old GPLv3 build of FFMPEG.EXE and binaries to do the screen capture and encoding in their closed source product whose license model is incompatible with the GPLv3 license. ZD Soft produce a proper installer that requests elevated rights or is in a form that can be run with admin rights to permit installation in the proper location or optionally a non-system drive. Even MSI installers can and should request rights elevation IF they are compiled properly, which obviously yours are not compiled properly. Try again!
In the mean time we can work around this faulty MSI by following the instructions in the article at:

“C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe” /i “%1” %*
That shows us how to add an install as administrator option to the MSI file types context (right click) menu. Then we can select C:\Program Files\Screen Marker\ to install the program properly!
Then it worked with this MSI file. I also note that on launch this supposedly simple screen marker runs msedgeview2 browser engine to make numerous unsolicited IPv4/IPv6 web requests which can be doing anything… I let my Malwarebytes windows firewall control block all those requests as there is no legitimate reason to permit them and ultimately blocked them permanently. And only allowed ScnMkr.exe through to validate the giveaway license key which worked.HTH and makes it past any URL posting filters.

All internet connections made by our software, including connections involving MSEdgeWebView2.exe, are used solely for software activation and periodic background verification of the license activation status. They are not used for analytics, user tracking, data harvesting, advertising, or any other undisclosed purpose.
MSEdgeWebView2.exe is a component of the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime and may be invoked by the software as part of the licensing and activation process. This can result in network activity appearing under the WebView2 process rather than under the main application executable.
We take user privacy and data security seriously. Our software does not transmit your screen recordings, screenshots, files, system details, or personally identifiable information.
We understand why unexpected network activity may cause concern, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify its purpose.

Thanks a lot !!![@ZD Soft] There is no legitimate reason for you to use MSEDgeWebview2.exe! Your main executable handles the license activation connectivity DIRECTLY and the Update checks are also done directly from the main executable. The extraneous web communications done via MSEdgeWebview2.exe are NOT essential to the operation of the program and are not what MSEdgeWebView2.exe are designed for! It is designed to embed a web browser rendering form within a program and no part of ZD Screen Marker or ZD Screen Recorder renders any web content. It is currently used solely to perform undocumented, authorised, unannounced https communications for purposes OTHER than main license activation and update checking. The license does not need continual and multiple validations per session and blocking those alleged license re-validations does not block access to licensed features… please explain WHY you are able to formally initially validate the license activation directly via https from the main program but alleged revalidation requires abuse of the MSEdgeWebView2.exe component in an unannounced and covert and agressive manner? Also why have you not addressed your companies theft of FFMPEG.ORG Intellectual Property and why do you build your MSI installer to not ask for elevated rights like properly built MSI installers so it can install into secure locations that require elevated rights to write into. It is bad programming practice to place executables into unprotected folders intended solely for data files and not executables. It is possible to prove your intention by packet sniffing the servers names contacted during these unauthorised covert communications attempts… I may build a sanitised virtual machine solely to investigate these suspicious unauthorised communications and make public my research for the time being regardless of what you claim, your dev choices to steal IP and break copyright laws and install software into an insecure location by default and make unannounced aggressive https web traffic misusing a component designed to embed browser content within an applications UI has made it clear you have no moral qualms about doing illegal and bad things for your own benefit, which in my view would include lying to cover up bad actions.
