Reviews for Alfa eBooks Manager
Looks nice and seems easy to use. My main problem is that most of my e-books are in .pdf format. This version does not recognize them, so for me it is useless.
It’s difficult to rate, I downloaded this (trouble free & quickly) on Monday, it installed easily and ran it. I have a huge collection of books, thousands of them. The sorter rand for about 5-6 hours importing. Then it was done. So I wanted to save the “archive”. It started running and ran for about 3 hours. Then it started displaying a memory error over each book. This morning I started the program and there is no evidence anywhere of anything it did yesterday. Had this thing worked, I would have gladly bought the “advanced” version. It would have been nice t o be able to save the data from one of the error messages too.

My experience too. I tried to import 2500 books. Ater about 2000 books the programme slowed down to a crawl, after about 2200 it crashed. The database was still empty. Uninstalled. I’ll stick to Calibre.

The popularity of ebooks has been increasing ever since, and it has taken over the old school printed versions of the books. The biggest advantage that ebooks have over the printed versions is that you can own and carry around thousands of books in your laptop or other devices, and do not need book shelves or libraries to store them. But as the collection of ebooks grows, one needs some help managing and organizing them.
Alfa eBooks Manager Basic is the software application that has been designed to help users in situations like this. It is a reliable application that allows you to organize all your ebooks in a single electronic library.
Overview
The installer is ~25MB in size and the installation process is quick and simple. After launching it for the first time, you are presented with options to either create create a new database or load the older ones. There are also tools to Repair, Compact, and Shrink the databases. After creating a new or opening an older database, you can easily start adding all your ebooks to your e-library.
Pros
Easy-to-use UI
The UI is simple and has a clean layout that should be suitable and easy-to-use for all kinds of users. The UI has a window, that looks like a shelf, that’s where all the ebooks you add to this application are arranged and organized. You can drag and drop to change the order by your preference. The window on the left is the ‘Library Explorer’ that let’s you filter and search book by Authors, Genres, Tags, Locations, and Languages. On the top is the toolbar that contains important and useful tools like, file parser, file manager etc.
Book card
A book card provides the comprehensive set of information and details about the book. When you add ebooks to your library, the application automatically fetches various details from the Internet. You can easily edit the details too, you can add publisher details, publishing date, number of pages and price, genre, authors name, book description, as well as the front and back covers.
ebook reader & Audio book player
This tool comes with a built-in ebook reader that allows you to read books of almost all famous formats. The 3D animations included with the reader make the overall reading experience great. You can flip pages and move book around just like you can with a hard copy of the book.
Moreover, this tool comes with a supports for audio books too, and gives users the ability to manage and play their audio books too. It can play mp3 and m4b format audio books.
Cons
Basic Version Lacks Important Features
The tool works great overall and the experience with it is satisfactory. One thing that I felt was, that the Basic version does not include most of the features. Like the ability to convert ebooks to different formats, or the ability to update books from Google Books, Amazon, and other book sites. For the price of $20 for the basic version, limited amount of features are available to the users.
Conclusion
Alfa eBooks Manager Basic is a great solution for managing huge collections of ebooks easily and efficiently. The intuitive layout of the UI makes it easy to use for all types of users. This application is recommended for book-lovers, schools, clubs and business libraries that own a large number of e-books and that have troubles with organizing them.
Just like music lovers, dedicated book readers would love to keep their books organized. Instead of manually organizing the books, you can take advantage of available EBook managers. Case in point is the Alfa EBooks Manager Premium. Not only is this program useful to individuals, but also to business libraries and clubs. Here is my take on this EBooks manager.
Alfa EBooks Manager Premium at a glance
This eBooks manager is easy to install whereby in this giveaway you have to open the compressed file to find the executable file for the installation. When you fire up the manager for the first time, you will have the option to create your new library or continue to an existing one. Either way, the main interface that follows has a decent collection of options at your disposal to start your management tasks.
Pros
Easy to use
Getting started with Alfa Ebooks Manager Premium is a pretty easy process. One can opt to scan a specified location on their computer for ebooks. On the other hand, there is the long way of adding books or pdfs manually. The option is easy to use. Although the options are quite many, their arrangement makes it easy to use.
Intuitive 3D Flipbook reader
This option let you read your eBooks like you would hardcopies. The animation makes it interesting. To move the book around, you just need to right-click and hold as you drag. In case you want to open a specific page, just type the same at the top-left pager option and press the return key.
Subtle statistics bar
As you add eBooks and PDF files into Alfa Ebooks Manager Premium, it will display a rather helpful statistics for your use. This information is available at the bottom right side of the main window. It shows the number of authors, genres, publishers, and tags that the program has registered so far.
Impressive search option
For large book libraries, finding a specific eBook could prove challenging. Thankfully, this manager has the search features that will make it easy for you find the book you want within the shortest time possible. In addition to just typing a string of letters into the search bar, you can fine-tune the search results by date, genre, format, or last edit.
Cons
It is a feature-limited version
Although this giveaway comes with built-in registration, it still lacks some features that the pro version presents. For instance, does not allow you to convert your ebooks into different formats using the eBook converter feature. The other features that did not work in this version are the File Parser and Edit Books.
Although this manager has a number of reading modes, the reader does not have an option to let you search for specific words.
Verdict
Alfa Ebooks Manager Premium will save you from your ebooks management nightmare. Apart from making it easy to scan for eBooks on your computer and adding them manually, this manager further lets you tag them for advanced arrangement approaches. Finding any book using this manager is simple, efficient and reliable. It worth a try.
Like most people, I use Calibre to manage my library. When I switched to AEM I’m impressed by the user interface design and the way databases are handled. My say: It has a lot of potential but it’s still in its infancy and too early to ship.
1. 3D Flipbook View
The 3D view is one of the awesome features. I can get to read a book naturally like I would when reading a real book. The problem with this feature though is that there’s no “panning” option. You can’t grab the book or the screen and drag across the screen to adjust the view. You will have to click the “actual size” button to zoom out and zoom in again, which really gives me a headache in the long run.
In 3D view, there’s also no option to go back to Page 1. So I had to click or flip the page backwards a hundred times to return to the first page.
2. No option to use another app for reading
Since the AEM built-in reader is not that user-friendly, you would want to read it using other application in your PC. You will be stuck with their reader to read it. #3 will explain further.
3. There’s no “go to file location”
Since you wouldn’t want to read using the built-in reader, you’d want to go to the folder instead and click the book there so you can read it using your default reader. However, AEM doesn’t have that. You’re now not only stuck on AEM, you also need to manually go to the folder in your computer to locate the file and click it from there.
AEM has lots of potentials to it but it seems to early to launch it.
Alfa Ebooks Manager is a software program designed with the book lover in mind, the kind who would love their books to remain organized, have tags, and be properly arranged on the virtual shelves. It isn’t exactly a great book reading software, but a proper ebook manager.
The software gives ebook lovers the ability to properly manage books and perform plenty of operations including tagging a book and creating a wish list. Adding a book to the shelf is as simple as dragging it, but the user interface isn’t exactly as simple as I expected it to be.
User interface
There is a wide range of things you can do with Alfa Ebooks Manager. However, you’ll have to scrape through a cluttered menu to reach your destination. First of all, you are needed to create a new database and then from there you can add books to it.
You can change the view and drag books to arrange them properly on the shelves. Also, you can easily edit the information and even add your own book cover. There are a lot of other stuff to do, but it’s worth noting that this is not a completely free premium version so you’ll have a couple of restrictions.
Functionality
The books must be downloaded to your computer first and the tags can either be entered manually or fetched from online sites. I couldn’t find an option to buy a book directly online. You can only download the book cover and a couple of tags, including the date, rating, year, and publisher, among others.
The software allows exporting book data in XML, TXT, HTML, or CSV or you can import from BookCAT or CSV. You can also scan a directory for books and switch between viewing modes. The software isn’t that easy to use, but handles most of its tasks quickly. The book reader function isn’t any better, and you might want to consider sticking to Kindle or any other better book reader.
Pros
• Customizable database fields
• Better book management
• Multiple export options including in XML, TXT, HTML and CSV.
• Import from BookCAT or CSV.
Cons
• Not easy to retrieve all book data online
• Poor book reader function
Conclusion
Alfa Ebooks Manager is an excellent tool for those who would love to tag and properly manage their books. It supports multiple book extensions, has many exporting and importing capabilities, and imports data from online sources.
