Reviews for Backupery for Gmail
Ever wanted to download a copy of your Gmail data in a scheduled way? Well, if you have, you will find the traditional procedure to getting it done quite long and boring. Backupery for Gmail seeks to make this simpler by automating the process. You can download and backup your data locally or even send it to different cloud storage at a dime.
First Impressions
When I first came across Backupery for Gmail, I remembered why I might need something to help me backup my Gmail content instead of going the traditional GDrive way. It’s great for keeping offline archives and will come in handy if you receive lots of bulky mail. How good is this app at getting the job done?
The Pros
Simple and Straightforward
This is by far the greatest benefit I have seen on Backupery for Gmail. A simple user interface lets you link the app to your Gmail (no login since the app uses the secure app authentication process offered by Google) After linking, you will be free to create and save your backups wherever you please in what I will admit to be the simplest procedure possible.
Perfect if you want your backups offline
I think the greatest use for this app, as said before, would be for people who want their emails and associated data downloaded to their hard drives. While it is rare to fill your Gmail storage space, Backupery will give you the power to download what you need and clear space on your online storage. Perfect for power users.
Automated Backups
The Setting stab will not only let you choose where to save the emails but also let you define how often you should do the backup. The power to automate the process makes the app quite convenient as it takes over the redundant and boring task of doing the actual daily or weekly backups on your own.
The clever organization of the backed up data into date marked folders makes it easier to retrieve the data using your default email reading app.
Cons
Cloud backup is hazy
If you were interested in cloud backup, you might have to direct the backups to your Dropbox or favorite cloud storage folder manually. I found the cloud backup option that requires you to email the developer for clearance quite limiting and uncalled for in this time and era.
No Control over what to backup
Running a backup means that you will get everything backed up. Some control, for instance date ranges or a string search, or Gmail label search that lets you backup specific email will be better than running an all out backup.
The backup process is a bit slow
I wouldn’t say my internet connection is the best, but it can easily hit 25Mbps on the upload and download. I really don’t understand how Backupery managed to backup a menial 25Mb in 15 minutes. This is too slow. Think of how long it would take to run a first time backup with up to a GB of data.
Verdict
Backupery for Gmail is a great idea for anyone who wants to automatically download their emails from the Google servers to their PC every now and then. It could excel in this if the developer could do something about the backup speed. As for the cloud backup option.. well, its not the best, and it might not be necessary since Google Drive gives you so much space for mail.
