Reviews for Magic Camera
From my point of view, The main function of Magic Camera is background exchanging. It can by used in different areas, such as in virtual office. When you just at home or during your trip and you have conference with your customers or partner, you can just use Magic Camera to change your real background and make it more professional. Besides, it can be cost effective for stat-up companies.
Magic Camera is an easy-to-use application designed to apply filters and effects to your webcam. Along with applying effects, masks, and filters, the application can take screenshots, record videos, and apply effects to the video chat.
Installation & Set-up
The installer of the application is ~20MB in size, and the installation process is simple and straightforward. The last step of the installation process involves setting up a virtual webcam in the Windows. This can take a couple of minutes to finish depending on your system. After this is done, the application can be launched. Launching it for the first time, you can either choose to use it as trial or activate a license, if you have any.
User Interface
The application comes with a UI that looks and feels very awkward and outdated. In fact, the UI reminds me of the older versions of Windows, when things did not look as attractive as they do today. Although, due to it’s simplicity, it is easy to navigate through the UI for all types of users. On the top is the menu bar with usual drop-down menus, under is the area where the webcam feed is shown. On the right side are buttons like webcam, capture screen, play video, photo, and effects. Clicking the effects button opens up all the filters, masks, effects that this tool contains. These are divided into categories like frame, distort, filter, scene, flash, emotion, mask, and more. Clicking the icon of the effect applies it to the webcam.
Features
Using this application you can capture screenshots and video, apply emoticons and objects, paint and draw, add text, record Webcam feeds, and apply a range of filters, masks, and effects. There are various frames, filters, and effects like gamma, brightness, grayscale, negative, halftone, color tone etc. Along with screenshots and recording videos, you can also play videos, open and view photos, and do more. This is done by a virtual webcam, and can work even if you do not have a webcam. Moreover, you can type text directly on video, alongwith the ability to add picture-in-picture from a second source. Most effects are editable and you can tweak with their position, size and transparency, and you can download more effects packages from the developers website.
Pros
User interface is easy-to-use
Many filters, effects, skins etc.
Ability to change skin and language of the UI
Works with all cameras including (HD) Webcams, Digital Cameras, TV/Video Capture Cards, Camcorders, IP Cameras
Cons
Webcam preview lags a lot
Outdated UI feels awkward
High system resource usage
Low quality effects, filters, and skins
Image scaling is messed up. It stretches most of the images.
Conclusion
Magic Camera does not fall anywhere near other similar applications in comparison. Low quality effects, lagging webcam feed, stretched out images, and outdated UI do not justify it’s $30 license cost.
Magic Camera is shareware that adds effects and filters to your webcam. It integrates into your webcam apps like Skype, gives you the ability screenshots, and edit them whenever you want. That sounds like quite the catalog. I was quite excited when installing this app.

At a glance
Magic Camera looks like a flashback into the retro world. The interface is sort of cluttered and pre Windows XP themed. The random icons are quite confusing bearing in mind that some work and others are, well, space holders.
Pros
A rich filter and mask catalog
I got to admit, I found the filters and mask catalog quite impressive. All the features are highly categorized and you won’t have any trouble finding your way about.
The same applies to the scene and background effects that will always give you an option when you want to change your camera’s appearances.
Efficient integration with your hardware
Magic Camera’s easy configuration will have it up and running the moment you install it. The developers did a great job in creating an off the box installation that works with little or no configuration.
Cons
Buggy and rough on the edges
Magic Camera seems like a pre beta version of the real thing. The capture screen function creates a capture screen that lingers around long after you shut down the entire application.
The graphics are too low
At such an era, we all should be interested in high quality graphics. Magic Camera’s backgrounds, masks, animations and scenes look too washed out. Moreover, if you add high quality pictures and scenes, you can always count on this app to down step the quality.
The image scaling is messed up
Adding a simple image for editing without paying attention to the 640×480 ratio will result in stretched out images. This coupled with the disturbing quality degradation makes Magic cam quite disappointing.
Verdict
Magic Camera is a disappointment. It’s an attempt at something amazing only that it feels a bit haphazard and incomplete. The developers could do a better job before releasing it to the market. I wouldn’t advise you to use it. There is better freeware webcam and photo effects software out there.

I would love to know what freeware you think is better than Magic Camera, I know I can get a lot on Android, but would prefer to use my pc webcam and have not found anything for Windows.
