Hurray! I found a solution to my problem in registry! (Not runned under Win 8.1 64-bit, I have Intel HD 2000 card)
I open regedit, and go to HKCU\Software\Reallusion\iClone\4.0 and there set AntiAliasing to 0 from 1. Start program and working! :-)
    I’m happy now!

Eureka! iClone is working! I don’t know how or why but, after reading more tech forum posts and articles about Windows 7 hardware and software compatibility problems than I ever wanted to, I tried running it in compatibility mode for XP SP 2 and then XP SP 3 (yes, these should have been tried first) but neither solved the problem. The program still crashed the minute I clicked on anything. I disabled compatibility mode but had nothing new to try and was going to uninstall iClone when I thought I’d give it one last chance. I double-clicked the program icon and it opened with the grid in place and everything working perfectly. I made a little movie and have opened and closed the program multiple times with no problems. It’s a really great little program – especially with all the extras in the Bonus pack installed.

[@ronn!] Not sure. I can’t find the page where it lists computer requirements :-(

Sorry. As I usually do before downloading these freebies, I went to the provider’s website for more info, and found this page which appears to refer to the current version (v. 5.5):

    http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/iclone_requirements.aspx

    On that page I read:

    Minimum System Requirements:
    (snip others)
Graphics Card*: Support for DirectX 9.0c and Shader Model 3.0

My particular question is not about DirectX 9 which has been addressed by others but Shader Model 3.0 which the graphics card on this old but still useful machine does not support (and for which my fixed income is not likely to finance any upgrades any time soon :().

Here the detail. “Failed to initialize the audio device. There may be another application using the audio device. iClone will now close.” That happen after installation and even after patch update. So I try uninstall it the reinstall, and it still the same. Before I use sound enhancer that I have uninstall it completely.

Unless you are absolutely, positively sure that you need DirectX9, Windows 7 machines already have it. I checked my Windows System 32 folder and they are all there:-). I’m looking for any way to get iClone to run successfully and it all goes back to that pesky ntdll.dll file. Last stop before giving up: reinstalling iClone.

iClone 4 requires DirectX9 and most of our computers have higher versions (Windows 7 has DirectX11). According to this Windows forum post, DirectX9 can also be installed.

Ashraf, have enjoyed your input here and on GOTD, but it seems both sites make downloading and using software way too complicated, if it works at all. The recent 6 month free use of System Mechanic is a case in point. Finally got it to download and install and two days later it says key is invalid and asks me to pay for it. Makes these whole enterprizes suspect at best and worthless otherwise, because it wastes time for to accomplish nothing.

I’m also encountering the “Failed to initialize the audio device” error. After which it says it will close, so can’t even open the program. How can this be resolved. Other than that everything appeared to download and registered okay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We’ve extended this giveaway for another 48-hours, to help those who can’t download the large file quickly. Enjoy!

    [@gdeswart] Welcome!

[@freesoftwaredude] Glad to hear it — welcome!

    [@MujerAlta] Welcome!

[@trust] Well some people aren’t on fast broadband connections. Still, I don’t think its fair to attack me for it… it isn’t like the program is really 10 MB in size and I’ve modified it to 300 MB for kicks and giggles. The program is what it is.

    [@nutlnw] Welcome!

[@delenn13] Welcome, and thanks for the kind words!

[@desdeillinois] You don’t type it in.

    [@rodken] Glad you like it!

Windows 7 Home Premium, i7, 64 bit no problems downloading (I made and ate dinner while it downloaded:-). I’d searched for reviews, etc. and some users made reference to installing as administrator with Windows 7 so I did. It installed fine. It has a great GUI. Watched a couple of tutorials and gave it a try. It stopped working with the second click I made on it. After a search for a solution, Windows closed the program. I re-launched and tried 4 more times and each time the program stopped working very early (a few clicks) into each session. According to Windows Event Viewer, the problem is the ntdll.dll (C:\Windows\sysWOW64\ntdll.dll). I restarted the computer and managed to get a click or two farther along before the program stopped working. I googled for info re iClone and Windows 7 and got no (nada, zip, zed, 0) links.

I’m familiar with Reallusion products as I have Face Filter and a friend has Crazy Talk Animator. They make quality products but this is an older version of iClone that has some obvious problems, at least with Windows 7 on my computer. I’m hoping there’s a fix – but, if there isn’t, it’s uninstall time.

I’m glad I had a chance to try out iClone. Much Thanks!

I really wish I had more time to comment on this, it’s in a class of it’s own, makes animating 3d so simple and professional. There isn’t freeware out there that is even closely similar to this.
I’m amazed there isn’t more praise for it.

Very nice program. Thanks. I pay for my bandwidth but having a 90 GIG limit….I, usually, am OK. Have come really close a few times.

I think I have downloaded more from here in the past 2 months than I have from GOTD all year.

I have used GOTD since December 2006 and I have watched you become quite “The Man” pertaining to software info and reviews. And now you have branched even further offering software, yourself. Good for you.

[@81sby] Would you like me to feed you with a spoon while I’m at it? We don’t modify download packages/installers; we give them to you as-is directly from the developer. In either case, ZIPing or RARing a program’s EXE doesn’t make that big of a difference. If a program is big, it is big — nothing we can do about it.

For those like me who cannot download this excellent freebie due to its huge size, there is an Open Source alternative called “Blender” which can do more or less the same things as this tool for FREE:
