[@Robertajo]Did you get the Russian-language email from sender “firstname.lastname@example.org”, or just the English-language one from Sharewareonsale? If the latter, you have to follow the instructions in that email to get the email from ABBYY. (FYI, the checkbox on the Russian-language page is agreeing to receive marketing email (presumably in Russian?<lol>) from abbyy…)Jan 4, 2016 at 5:56 am #3894163
It is about 3 hours ago that I got the download link sent via email & after following instructions to get the key, nothing has come up. Normally u get the key a few moments later. I even tried the alternative registration page, to no avail.
What’s going on? I would not like to miss out on this otherwise great software.

Typically a form that needs to be filled out is in PDF format. Since the title of this software says its a reader and not a writer, are you saying that

will allow me to complete the fields in a PDF file?
Also, it would be nice if we could pick and choose options (who needs 160 languages?!?) to cut down on the 240 MB download!

While this program works very well (as do all the ABBYY programs I have), one caveat for those of you who, like me, prefer to run a lean machine: despite having activated successfully, these programs all require a “licensing service” to be running, which means you either have to have the service running constantly in the background even if you use this only occasionally, or you have to stop everything to go into Services and start the service before taking a capture, and then remember to stop it after taking a capture. Every other company manages to maintain licensing without a constantly running service in the background, but every Abbyy program has this serious annoyance, which is a shame considering how useful their programs are. The constant “phoning home” to check the license also may strike some as a security issue, considering it’s a Russian company, though my many years of experience with Abbyy leads me to believe they are reputable. I just don’t like this constantly running (or inconvenient) checking back to the mother ship :). Not the worst inconvenience for my Abbyy Fine Reader, as I don’t use it much and do the “start service/stop service” dance, but I can see using the screenshot reader a lot more. For the meantime, sticking with Ashampoo Snap7 for regular screenshots and saving this for OCR needs.Jan 4, 2016 at 9:06 am #3895405
