This one’s quite old formally Jan 2 2026, the unofficial and denied unannounced beta was December 20 2025 4.14 by BDJ, I I got the 4.14 and did not see a need to “update” to this one as it had everything, new SDK etc that 4.16 has 4.16 has been offered in other giveaways throughout the year you may already have it… 4.14 has been stable for me, no reason to expect 4.16 to be any different. Not mentioned in the description is the fact that allmynotes uses a proprietary database structure that includes error correction systems, despite many many years of use and windows soft crashes and filesystem faux pas the database this uses remains consistent with no need of a repair utility or to have to resort to the automatic backups to recover lost data my current 23,535KBytes database. just looked I have 445MBytes of backup archives I think that’s somewhat excessive considering they’ve never been needed in well over a decade approaching two decades that I should preserve my SSD by reducing the periodic backup depth…

In my opinion this is a good program, the only thing that stopped me buying it was the varying prices offered by the different payment providers and being unclear if the prices were inclusive of VAT or not or if it needed to be, assuming this is a small company so is not registered with my countries tax authority. I also remember 4.14 and earlier is a little happy to write to the program log when nothing is changing or when a backup is done etc I although 4.16 change log states:

Significantly reduced disk write operations, especially when no actual data changes were made. This prevents unnecessary updates to file modification timestamps, which in turn avoids triggering unneeded backups and cloud uploads, and resolves conflicts when users share data files via cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, SharePoint, OneDrive, SyncThing, etc.

I’m not convinced that was a 4.16 only change but was also done in the denied unannounced beta 4.14 which has ALL the digital characteristics mentioned in 4.16 entry including the new digital certificate which the previous versions lacked. There needs to be an option to stop allmynotes.log from being written to when it is never needed as the program is practically bug less and it’s only faults I can see are design choices and not accidental errors/bugs. Personally I tried to block allmynotes.log unwanted writes by replacing the file with a folder of the same name so that writes to the file but now folder would fails and it just switched to another folder and continued writing to the file in the new location… to the point that now it’s writing to that file located in the users TEMP folder… for some reason I gave up at that point but no idea why lets try adding a folder there too… there that’s better had to chase the file around multiple drives and folders but that now seems to have prevented further unwanted writes to that file in any location. YAY! And to keep that folder in the users TEMP file so it survives any program cleaning the TEMP folder right click on the folder select properties and Security and add an Everyone user group and deny writes and modify too. and it should survive ANY program even trustedinstaller user trying to delete it.

OMG!!! HE LIKES IT. TK REALLY LIKES IT!!!** Before I even consider downloading a program I’ve learned to first check to see TK’s opinion and how badly he trashes it. I can’t always follow all of his commentary, but the more negative he is on a given program the more unlikely I am to even consider downloading it. I can’t recall the last time I saw such a positive review from him.
** (That’s a riff on a old LIFE cereal commercial from the 80’s +/- that ran forever for those of you old enough to remember “Mikey likes it! He really likes it”)

I can confirm this is exactly the same version, namely 4.16 Build 1295, as was given away by SharewareOnSale on 25 March 2026.

[@Don] I do give credit where credit is due LOL, note I did criticise the aggressive log file creation which I had to chase around folders blocking it using the folder of same name trick… I used the search program “Everything” to find the log files as they popped up until they stopped. I tend to trash programs that are not programmed by the developer but are either bought in and rebranded or stolen 3rd party modules with just the developer making or rebranding a restrictive GUI… or just bad programming practices and on giveaway sites we get A LOT of those! To my knowledge this is all the developers work except for the spellchecker dictionary which I think uses open offices spell checker dictionaries… I vaguely recall reading that somewhere ages ago. So I could be wrong. There is one limitation because the database is proprietary and designed for single user access we cannot share an allmynotes.ddb file on a network share between multiple machines or on a cloud drive and share it from there. But that was never a deal breaker for me. Of course if you have no need for a comprehensive, resilient notes organising program this will likely be no use for you but if you want to keep lots of notes or diaries, I personally don’t know of anything better for single user windows based programs. If you want to sync across mobile devices and windows and or macs or linux then this will not be for you.

[@TK] I gave up trying to follow your discourse on minimizing writes to my SSD. Is this program likely to shorten the life of the SSD in my new laptop with excessive writes/rewrites if I don’t try to fool it by creating a temp folder? This is my first experience with an SSD and I’m wary about protecting it from unnecessary writes/rewrites.
    Thx,

[@Don] All modern tech is designed to fail eventually.. that’s how capitalism works! I’m a little obsessive about beating the curve and making my systems last far longer than designed, will you notice the shortened life from not blocking the logging? Probably no there are far too many unrestrained writes in windows already… I’ve reduced unnecessary writes when it does not break anything in the knowledge that every unnecessary SSD write does mathematically and practically reduce SSD lifetime by some amount and it all adds up… I was not advocating getting obsessive about protecting the precious SSD drives at the expense or functionality but if you are keen to avoid avoidable wear and tear there are ways to do it if the programmer refuses to do it for you. Which was the point of my post about it. But I’ve had SSD based laptops fail due to motherboard component failure long before the SSD got into an unusable state… as they are all built to a budget and individual non-SSD chips can just fail due an undetected manufacturing fault.
