I LOVE the retro look of this app and would like to feel the same about the whole app. However, as soon as I installed it I received a warning from Windows Defender that I have a severe virus located here C:UsersxxxxxxAppDataLocalTempMMBPlayerstartup.exe. I let Windows remove the setup file and now when I try to make a project within a folder, I get an error reading, “Data cannot be saved in “folders.dat” file. In fact I get the same message when trying to close the app. And, yes, I installed and ran as administrator. I’m on Windows 10 64 bit. So, was the file marked as “severe threat” by Windows Defender an actual virus or did I remove some part of the program? And, why would any program operate from a TEMP folder? There are other files in the directory, .dlls, etc, that look like they might be part of this app. Please help. Like I said, I love the retro feel. Loved Windows 3.x filing cabinet!

    To Manuel from Asman.

First, thank you for this offering. There are 2 issues you should be aware of.

    1) I am running Win10HomeX64. When I launch the program, I get a Windows pop-up that the program requires the DirectPlay add-on. Looking that up, it seems to be an obsolete item associated with DirectX.

    2) Launching the Task Mgmt program, a file is created in the “AppData.Local.Temp.MMBPlayer” directory called startup.exe. That file triggers a virus warning and when checking it in virustotal, they give a notice that “! 30 security vendors flagged this file as malicious”.

P.S. I appreciate your “About” page on your site!

Check the file at virus total if you have an issue. It is easy, just select the file and it will tell you. https://www.virustotal.com/gui

    WOW – I’m not Alone!

Windows 3.11 – The only one good to keep…
Still in use on the same computer! – No updates, No problems
While time by time (as you can see) I still use Windows 7 Pro, 8.1 on an All-in-One desktop-comp and W10 (Arghhh) on a laptop, now for my Webmaster and Internet Marketer activities I use Just Linux (a

    workstation plus a personal desktop.

Anyhow I’ll try this Task Manager – just to compare with with the dozens or so you can get free to install on Linux.

startup.exe allows the app to set “automatically run at startup”. I’m sorry that file triggers a virus warning, it does what I say.
You are free to delete that file if you don’t need that feature, or you can do this manually.

About “Data cannot be saved in “folders.dat” file” error, please check if the app has full write permissions access. This is definitely the cause of the problem

Usually, I have no trouble installing stuff from this site. But this app is a real pain. It does not put the file where I want it. It doesn’t put it in the directory specified in my browser for files being downloaded so I had to look for it. And then it is a zip file. This is 2021. Try a self-extracing zip. This is so 1980s. So I try to move the file from the obscure place it was stuck to my regular directory for downloaded files, one with no special permissions or anything else cludgy. It won’t let me do it.

I give up. I don’t care if it is free. If it is this much work for a program that only costs $25 normally, you already know it isn’t any great program. This one is just too much bother.
