    1. Norton prevented download – I ignored
    2. Installed and launched and it displayed errors and would not start (Windows 7)
    3. Uninstalled, not worth the fear.

Hello everyone. This is Bitrot Detector’s author.

I’m sorry to hear about the scary messages some of you have received from your antivirus programs. It’s an unfortunate false positive, probably related to Bitrot Detector’s licensing and registration code. Of course I’d like you to be able to enjoy my program, but I wouldn’t blame you if you decided not to install it after these messages. Hopefully I can identify the reason for these messages and address it in the future.

For everyone else, enjoy! Also, thank you for the helpful feedback several of you have sent through email.

The Testing Windows Scheduler window did not ever close (remains up) on the system I tested this on. I am guessing that happens when the logon does not require a password.

I have installed Bitrot Detector yesterday, and about 24h later Windows Defender tells me that it contains the trojan Win32/Rundas!plock
    And this security page
    https://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/threat/encyclopedia/entry.aspx?name=Trojan%3aWin32%2fRundas!plock
says that it is a ransomware…

[@gt13013] Evidently, various other programs have been falsely detected as containing Rundas!plock:

    https://github.com/google/spatial-media/issues/101
    https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/site-support/12965/
    http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6322&t=119887

Unfortunately, it seems to be a common problem for newly released programs with packed executable files (such as Bitrot Detector). I’m sorry you’ve encountered this, and I’ll work on reporting these false positives to various antivirus companies.

Gary: What version of Windows does your system have?

Also, if you exit Bitrot Detector and reopen it, does the Windows Scheduler window come up again? (You can exit it by clicking on the Exit button in the About tab.)

For anyone having trouble entering the license key:

After copying the license key, you can click inside the “License Key” text box and press the Ctrl + V key combination.

This text box doesn’t currently display a menu when you right click on it. One will be added to the next version, along with auto-pasting capabilities.
