IT FIGURES!!!! Here is my nice install error message.

In most cases this problem tells that the built-in SQL Server 2008 has not been installed successfully so the setup wizard could not connect to it to create database and data. Probably some component required by the SQL Server is missing in the system and you need to check SQL Server setup logs to discover the issue.
The log folder is located at %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\. The time-stamped log folder name is in the format YYYYMMDD_hhmmss. Check Summary.txt and Detail.txt files in that folder for information. You can also zip that folder and send it as attachment to [email protected] for a quick resolution.

During install I ws given the error message that
I had to sign in as administrator to continue installation.
I was signed in AS ADMINISTRATOR!!
What can I do???[@Tom Gordon] Right-click on the server setup file and choose “Run as administrator” from popup menu. This executes the installation with administrative priveleges.

Must I separately purchase licenses for Messenger and Observer and, if so, are those licenses perpetual with lifetime updates/upgrades? Can I ‘deactivate’ a license on one client for activation on another without added cost?

[@Fides Nemo] If you mean a paid version of the software then you apply license only on the communication server product. Both messenger and observer do not require any registration, you can move the clients between workstations and install them as many as you want. Since the license applied on the IM server it constrols and restricts the number of concurrent user connections.
