In case anyone missed this important mention at the top of the post…
This is the LE edition of CyberLink PowerDirector 14.

(Kudos to S.O.S. for being up front, about exactly what is being offered).

For those that don’t know, LE edition = ‘Cripple Ware’

Also, as mentioned by ‘Mark R’: “The software also does not let you output video in a resolution higher than 640×480 unless you make an additional purchase”.
Also, the free version only allows you to produce a final video as an .mp4 file.
Which pretty much renders this offering as useless in my opinion.

If you wish to buy a fully functioning version of the

      current

version of Power Director (ver. 15), it is available in four versions.
*Note: I could not find version 14 for sale on their site.
The prices shown below are for the NON-SALE price.
*Note: they do have a sale going on right now.
    Ultra – $229.98
    Ultimate – $259.98
    Ultimate Suite – $249.99
    Director Suite – $299.99
So, you could use today’s offering to see if you like how it works, and if you do, you know what your options are to buy the full program.

HOWEVER… Cyberlink offers a “Free 30-day PowerDirector 15 Ultra Trial”
It might make more sense, to download a fully functioning, current version, for 30 days if you want to have the full experience.

Mister Lee makes great points above and I will add one of the reasons why I personally think it is a nice program to have. I happen to just pick up PD15 Director Suite recently and a great aspect is the community.

There are both CyberLink and individual created free downloads that really enhance the programs abilities as well as a forum to share ideas and problems and such.

I own another video editing software I like a lot but it lacks these aspects and in my opinion cripples them in comparison.

I haven’t had the program long but the basics of use are pretty easy to get the hang of while there are a lot of options beyond that if you really want to get creative. There are also a lot of good videos on YouTube from CyberLink and others that’ll teach you most all you’d want to know.

I think all in with the current sale I paid $91 and some change for the biggest bundle offered. While it is great SOS offers this if you plan to really use the program and publish anything online you’re pretty much going to have to upgrade/pay for that ability. If you just want to play with editing some video and do things for yourself, friends, family etc. then maybe this program offered will suffice.

Like every Cyberlink product (free or not), this gives you very basic functions with the lowest possible quality output formats, and the only way to improve things is to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade for more money.

Aside from which, a Cyberlink installation will wrap itself around your machine’s spinal cord and is almost impossible to cleanly uninstall.

I learned my lesson long ago – no Cyberlink products on any machine for which I am responsible. So many other less obnoxious options are available, I see no reason to use their products.

Important: This is only the “LE” version, not the full version.
Too bad I had to go through the whole download and installation procedure to find that out.
I wish Ashraf would pay closer attention to details like that. It’s not mentioned anywhere on this page (well, it is now).

This software does NOT support XP.
Although this webpage says it does:

Hi guys.. I am struggling to install Power Director 14 on my HP Vista 32bit Home Premium PC computer. I do have Power Director 8 and I LOVE to use it! I did get the free-bie download of Power Director 14 but it does not want to install… I did upgrade all my drivers with Driver Booster 4 and it still will not install. When I double click on the freebie link of Power D 14, it doesnt even open the install box or installing wizard, when I click on the link just nothing happens.

I am desperate because I would never be able to afford a stunning program like this again. I am in South Africa…
Thank you for your time, I am looking forward hearing from you!
I do have SP 1 and 2 installed, I did turn off my DEP of windows and all my drivers are updated but still…. the link did not react when I tried to open it. I did the download at: http://sharewareonsale.com/s/cyberlink-powerdirector-sale
    this is my Computer’s info:
    -Windows Vista Home Premium
    * Service Pack 2
    *Processor: Intel(R) core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q 6600 @ 2.40GHz
    * Memory (Ram) 3.00 GB
    * System type 32 bit Operating System
I do have VGA anti virus protection but it does not interfere. As I say, when I double click on the link to download the free PowerDirector 14. NOTHING happens. No small box come up to give you a choice to “run” and install the software.
I did delete my previous Power Director 8 as well and restarted my computer.

    Please… can anyone help me?
    Thank you.
