I do respect the developers for offering their work for free. There are some problems with this noise reducer. Trick with such software is to take out predictable patterns of noise and leave the rest of the photo unchanged. At our poor level of tech knowledge to date, this is impossible, but some programs get a bit closer to the desired end point.
Easy denoiser fails to accurately separate noise from not noise. It does take out noise, but also too much of the photo itself. The program more acts like a blurring tool in the more aggressive settings. Star photography at hi ISO takes a hit by dimmer stars being removed as well.
I’m sure someone with more patience than me could fine tweek some settings to get an acceptable result.
As of today (3/20) I think the Franzis Denoise #2 Elements program is still for free for maybe a day or so. This is a far superior program and my high recommendation to get the job done with least collateral damage to the photo.
