I understand this is a guide, but for the product it describes: is it useful for a home user? Can I add metatdata about files, or is it limited to text search of file contents? Is indexing a continuous background thing, or can it be paused, or run on demand? How does it handle file moves/deletes/changes? Hmmm, maybe the guide will answer my questions :)

[@Mr.Dave] Update: I spend some time looking through the guide. Aside from some odd grammer and numerous typos (I found them in the text, who knows what lies in the coding examples), this book assumes a fairly deep knowledge of java, programming, search engines, and server setups. Definitely not an introduction to any of these. But if you’re a developer already working in this field, this guide might provide a path for adding the ElasticSearch capabilities to your next project.

As for a home user like me, I see no possible use for this. Thanks SOS and Trade Pub, it was an interesting glimpse into a world that’s still very far from me, and I’ve been developing software as part of my job since the 70’s.
