GeneGuestI have now tested the important (most recent) program files a VirusTotal, and they all came out clean . . . so I’m not sure where anyone may be seeing results to the contrary.
Regarding Youtube, they have been changing their architecture and downloading policy for some time now. The result amounts to a continual back and forth “arms race”, with many (most ?) apps that used to be able to download from YT now no longer being able to do so, in a great many cases. They actively block you from grabbing stuff (at least, without a subscription ?), & / or force you to deal with their preliminary commercials. If you succeed in grabbing anything, it may just be the commercial. Download / Capture app.s have to try to work around this. They may fail, at least until the next program update. So, if your download app is frequently updated, this can be a big plus. I’ve been having pretty good luck with TubeDigger on this. It is frequently updated. (I’m in *No* way a shill for them, in fact having gotten into a nasty scrap with its developer once. But I have to concede that it’s been working well for me.) Will have to test current FVD more to see where it stands with Youtube at the moment. Beyond that, there is the paid-only program VideoGet, and a freebie one called TVDownloader. Those are the best ones I know of, and if you can’t grab your target video with one of them, you may be out of luck.
By some research and reading the fine print, I think I’ve answered most of the questions I had about FVD. (We’ll see if my previous install just goes -poof- in a couple days, after the promo license expires.) It has been a pretty capable program, but in terms of the pricing or license terms, you can do better.
