I get a message that the registration information is for an older version of the program, and I must upgrade (ie pay).

I even downloaded the older version (4) from their site to try it, but I get the same message.

I copied the registration information rather than retype it, still no difference.

    Hi Philip,

    Art from Salty Brine here.

Make sure you are running version 4.2.9 and that you are entering the registration name and key values exactly as provided to you by SoS. If you still have this issue, try this:

    1. Create a text file called reginfo.txt
    2. Enter the registration name value on line 1
    3. Enter the registration key value on line 2
    4. Save the text file in the same folder that you’ve installed FolderMatch into.

FolderMatch will see that this file exists and will read the registration details from here.

This is v4.2. Most recent version is v5.06.
Judging from the version history on your website, there have been very much bug fixes from 4.2 to 5.06.
Why do you want that people install an old version riddled with bugs?

    Hi Petey,

We’re offering the previous version of our software for free – v4.2.9. We consider that a generous offer. It runs great and will more than meet your needs.

True, there have been many changes between that version and the current one but to describe it as “riddled with bugs” is inaccurate and a misrepresentation. Tens of thousands of users worldwide have safely and happily used it for many years – it’s very stable.

    Per “Technical details”:
    Supports Windows 7, 8/8.1, and 10 (32-bit and 64-bit)
Should I take this to mean that it doesn’t support Windows 11?

Will it work on Windows XP (32-bit)?

Hi Bob – No, that version won’t work on XP. Windows 7 is the minimum OS for FM v4.

I have a very heavy involvement in genealogy and collect a significant amount of duplicate information in photos, files and programs.
FolderMatch is by far the best software I have found-it finds gigabytes of diskspace taken up with duplicates and safely allows me to store them in a separate file for later filtering before I permanently and securely delete large volumes of duplicates, triplicates and, at times, quadruplicates.
A very fast, secure and efficient way of clearing up diskspace.
Congrats to the developers of FolderMatch, you save me a lot of time and a huge amount of space, both of which I have very little of.
