ColinGuestWhat version of the software is this? I already have version 7.3 and I receive update notifications that version 7.44 is available. I’m guessing the offered version here is somewhere in between, but it would be useful to know which version SOS is promoting.
Peter BlaiseGuestThis version of Konstantin Polyakov’s ChemTable Soft Organizer v7.44 Program Uninstaller / Updater ( download and check versions and check VirusTotal yourself to make sure the download you receive is what you expect — this is clean at VirusTotal for me ) has a couple of bug fixes from it’s previous version, but is still quirky.
For example of a quirk, I right-click on old Adobe AIR, it offered to update 2 applications, silly me, thinking Adobe AIR must have 2 elements, I clicked … and 2 completely unrelated programs started updating, one of which put the software out of it’s license, and of course, Adobe AIR did not update.
This program, ALL software updaters, sorely needs to check LICENSES to make sure whatever update it offers does not exceed the license on the computer.
As such it should offer a way to archive an uninstalled program so that we can reinstall it, perhaps create a zip executable package that collects everything removed and allows us to reinstall it, along with orphans and registry entries.
This software needs an OOPS UNDO capability.
Uniquely to this software is the orphans finder, and it found lots of leftovers from the Maxthon browser that IObit Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller missed — funny using a Russian uninstaller to remove a Chinese program, when neither country’s governments are trustworthy, and both are suspected of using commercial software distribution for nefarious purposes.
I strongly recommend that any software company in a questionable country move to a neutral territory in order to protect your own reputation ( and work to make your government safe for you and for the world … not that the US is a shining example at the moment ) — a clean scan at VirusTotal like this has helps build trust, I suppose.
Apparently no one can update Adobe AIR or Apple iTunes or Microsoft SilverLight, so I suppose that a manual complete uninstall and cleanup, and then a fresh install of the newer version is the only way to address programs that insist on finding their previous versions to uninstall as part of their installations, but their previous installers were cleaned up by any number of drive cleaning utilities — I’ve yet to see a Windows Program uninstaller / updater address these misbehaviors successfully.
More quirky wise, the “Rename” feature does not produce any changes in Revo Uninstaller’s list of a program’s names, for example, but both Revo Uninstaller and Soft Organizer show more programs than IObit Uninstaller … go figure, I guess we need them all!
I like Soft Organizer’s benefit of finding orphans that other uninstallers miss, though the user interface is inconsistent and confusing, but I consider it’s cleanup of left over unique and valuable, the other features seem on a par with IObit Uninstaller / Updater and Revo Uninstaller ( Revo is an only an uninstaller, revo has no updater, and has evolved and anti-user interface worse than Soft Organizer ! ) )
More quirky, user interface wise, I challenge you to go back to the full list of installed software after looking at software to update, I challenge you!
.Peter BlaiseGuestAfter rebooting and trying to update Adobe AIR again, it sent me to a Russian Adobe page — Soft Organizer does not check what my language version is ( US English ).
Still got an error and could not update. so I’ll have to fix things manually.
Says Microsoft Silverlight needs an update, downloads it, runs it, Microsoft says already installed, fails to update.
None of these are critical or dangerous, but they are a waste of time, and Soft Organizer does not manage them.
.Chemtable SoftwareGuestHello Peter,
The problem with updating Adobe AIR is fixed.
Regarding Microsoft Silverlight. What is your version? By the link, which Soft Organizer is pointing to there is a 5.1.50918.0 version. And this is the very latest version at the moment.Chemtable Software Team
bobjbklnGuestThis is a great program. Been using the prior version for almost a year. Easy to use and it’s never caused a problem by removing or changing a wrong registry key.
CNTGuestWell, this is a bit weird…
I don’t change the software on my production machines very often, and tend to just update in place with full downloads from the software developer.
I have used SoftOrganizer for primarily my “screw-around / test system”. I tried installing 7.44 over top of version 6.15. When I try to start 7.44 after the install, I get a “Reg64Call.EXE had an error” pop-up and “SoftOrganizer (not responding)” showing up in Task Manager. Running Windows 7 Ultimate (fully up to date). Version 6.15 had started fine just minutes before I attempted to do the update.
Any suggestions?
Peter BlaiseGuest[@CNT] try a complete R&R using, ahem, other uninstallers!
Even R&R both the old and the new Soft Organizer.
What’s wrong with Microsoft’s own calls for a program’s default uninstaller?
Leftovers?
Seriously?
With all the cleaners in the world?
.mardelGuestFirst of all, thank you Ashraf for posting this software again. I have used it previously and just purchased a Win 10 pro system and I had to download the free version. Was hoping I would see this offer again!! I was able just to upgrade to the pro-version and insert the license and I now have the pro version of 7.44 (which is stated on the first page prior to clicking Yes I want this) I was also able to simply update this software on my Win7Pro by selecting upgrade and inserting the license again on it. I frequently use the tracking installed software feature that this offers and discovered while using the free version that only the pro version enables that. The software seems to remove all traces of software that you select to uninstall and does a good job compare to the windows uninstall. Thank you again for giving this away and thank you to Chemtable too.
CNTGuestPeter:
I did try flushing everything out with Revo Uninstaller free & CCleaner, before I wrote the previous post, but it did not work! Unfortunately, I did not monitor the original SoftOrganizer install (nor the new version), so I do not know what else has been missed by Revo’s attempts to uninstall SoftOrganizer that’s preventing the new version of SoftOrganizer to run.
However, when did the restore point back, the expired old version of SoftOrganizer does run.
Fun, wow. I’m hoping from some input from the developer…
AussiePeteGuestThese later editions of the program have a nagging update window which pops up every time the program is loaded. Contrary to what the pop-up says, there is no way to change these notifications. If you have an earlier version of the program I wouldn’t update to a newer version because not much has changed from a functioning point of view, in fact, I preferred the earlier versions.
sonycGuestThank you !
