Mr.DaveGuestLooks like the “Start” version offered here is more of a demo, and is very limited in capabilities and templates. No gallery or tables or contact form, but you can have up to 25 pages in one “design”. No product catalog or search. “Start” can’t create websites for any kind of e-commerce but might be fine if you want something like a facebook page for others to see. Their website talks about a 12-month “Update Production” that comes with more expensive versions (not “Start”) but never gives pricing — only that it’s 50% off if you re-purchase before the end of the year. I assume that’s 50% of full product price, which isn’t bad if it does what you want. Their own website was created with Website X5 and it handles a lot of different things very well. I’m not a web developer but this looks like a good place to start if you’re interested in testing the market without a lot of up-front learning/training or hiring a web developer. I don’t think it would help you learn how to make a site later without Website X5, it’s a drag-and-drop environment that does all the behind-the-scenes work for you.
JamesGuestThanks SoS..another great piece of software to try. Starting out and want a decent web page but can’t afford those enourmous rates..give WebsiteX5 a try and you will be quite surprised how easy it really is.
PaulGuestI hate it when this happens, even if the program is free.
All downloads went as instructed.
Then it asks me if I want to install.
I said Yes.
But then it installs it on my C drive with no option that I can see to install it on any other drive.
For crying out loud.
I have an SSD as my C drive.
It is very limited for space
So I have set up a D data drive to install such programs.
But it insists upon setting itself up on my C drive.
In consequence I have cancelled the installation.SimonGuestThis is a bit of a silly giveaway to be totally honest. Seems to have some major restrictions on it. There are plenty of freeware software packages that can do a lot more wysiwyg without having to learn HTML or other coding.
SimonGuest[@Simon] Also forgot to say, you have to create an account with them to register the software. So this, in turn, leads to more unwanted email from them trying to sell you other software.
BreMMGuestBut then it installs it on my C drive with no option that I can see to install it on any other drive.
Run the installer
Choose your language, click on Next
Click on I accept the agreement
And now in the bottom left corner, it reads “Preferences”, click on it
Choose the drive you want to install to and press NextPaulGuestThank you BreMM for replying to my install problem.
I tried again and all is well. But really “Preferences” in the bottom left hand corner is rather an obscure place to provide the way to an alternative to a C: installation. Nevertheless, it worked. I have it installed.
Thank you Incomedia for the free program, and Thank you BreMM for taking the time to help.
