Reviews for Artensoft Photo Mosaic Wizard
Ever wanted to create a mosaic but found it tiresome and time-consuming? Well, there is a tool to handle that for you. Your image will be complete in less than 10 mins. If you don’t know what a mosaic is, well, it is a photograph made from a collection of other pictures.
Artensoft Photo Mosaic Wizard has been designed to transform an image into a set of photos taken from your entire collection. The program uses high-end composition algorithms to match the pictures with your specified image and create a mosaic that resembles it using your photo collection. It matches the colors and contours to create a mosaic of the original photo faithfully.
User Interface
The interface looks a bit outdated but very functional. I spent less than 5 mins learning my way around it. In fact, it handles almost the entire process by itself –don’t underestimate the word wizard on its name. There’s the main menu from which you can control settings such as the storage path, quality of the photos, and languages. The secondary menu is a wizard with all the steps required to create your mosaic.
Functionality
The program will use 500 or more images to compose the photo mosaic. Of course, you need to have the original image that the mosaic will be modeled on. If you don’t have 500 images, you might want to download some from the official Artensoft website.
Choose the master image first then click Next. Here is where you upload the set of 500+ images. The process will take quite some time. Basically, the more photos you have, the more time it’ll take.
Next, you’ll have to set the variants of the images and the size of the final mosaic. You can also set the range for cell images. Click on create a mosaic and wait for about 5-10 minutes for the project to complete. Once it is done, preview the image and make any changes where necessary. You won’t find yourself making changes often since this software works out the gradients perfectly.
Saving the pics also takes quite some time. You can change the size of the photo on the Save tab before you save the file. The resulting standard images are of course big in size than normal images unless you select the option to save it as a small size file.
Pros
• It has a wizard-like interface that makes it easy to create mosaics.
• The results are customizable
• Uses high-end mosaic creation algorithms
• Download image sets from their website
Cons
• I couldn’t find any disadvantages. The mosaic size is easily justified by the number of images used to create it.
Conclusion
Artensoft Photo Mosaic Wizard is a great tool for creating mosaics, and I’d recommend that you download it. Of course, some master images will create better mosaics than others. Therefore, when dealing with master images that have more detail, consider using more photos.
It works very quickly. Does a pretty good job, but you’ll probably want to tweak the numbers a bit to get a good result.
I have an index of over 1300 pictures that we took on a trip to Italy in 2007 (the program suggests you have at least 500 images it can use to make the mosaics). As a test case, I wanted a mosaic of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
At 1200 tiles, it was just a mess of colors. This took about a minute.
At 3600 tiles, you could clearly see the structural elements and rough outlines of shapes, but no great details. This took about 3 or 3.5 minutes to render.
At 7200 tiles, well…let’s just say Michelangelo wouldn’t be spinning in his grave. :-) This took well over 10 minutes to render, but the results are well worth it. I wish I could upload the picture so you could see for yourselves, but I like it.
I would suggest having a database of at least 1000 pictures and using a setting of at least 5000 tiles. If you have time, the more tiles you choose, the better your final result will be.
good!
