All-in one burning solution , nice software !
It doesn’t matter how many thumb drives or external hard drives you have on your desk. You will need to burn a DVD or CD one time or the other. Finding a good free Blu-ray/DVD/CD burning software isn’t as easy as it ought to be. This is the kind of pessimism I had when downloading Cyberlink Power 2 Go 9. The good thing? It didn’t disappoint.
At a glance
CyberLink Power 2Go 9 Platinum is supposed to be a all-under-one-roof burning solution. The manufacturer description left quite some expectations in me. I expected it to handle all my ripping, encryption, copying and the actual writing needs without a glitch. Let’s see how it fared on during my tests.
Pros
A clear and straightforward interface
The interface is intuitive, straightforward and easy to use. You will get large icons directing you to the main functions and hovering on each icon will pop options and text at the lower section of the app window. The fact that the developers gave the app a borderless look makes it very futuristic and interesting to look at. You will also get convenient functionality like an AutoPlay menu whenever you pop in some media and a desktop gadget for quick drag and drop burning.
Powerful music manager tool
CyberLink Power 2Go 9 Platinum is more than just ripping your music. Even though you might have to work around the default settings (they are the bare minimum), Power 2Go 9 works perfectly and is quick. It reads and perfectly understands all the track data and will put it at the right space. It took me less than six minutes to successfully rip and burn audio from one disc to another on my maiden run.
Quick actions
Ripping the music and burning it in a disk was pretty fast and straightforward. You will experience similar finesse when working with the video clip editor and compiler. CyberLink managed to tie every functionality to great performance. We love speed, accurate speed. That is definitely a winner.
Menu templates
If you are burning a DVD, you might want to create an interactive menu. Power 2Go 9’s control over this menu and the fact that you can add to the 3 on-boar menu themes by downloading more from CyberLink makes it quite the visual stunner.
Cons
Clip editing and organization isn’t so flexible
Yes, I know it isn’t a video editor. But hey! If you choose to let me edit and join clips before burning them, give me all the basic functionality. It wouldn’t let me rotate or trim my clips.
No menus for Blu-ray
Well, the finesse expressed in creating DVD menus almost made me overlook this. It is however a great setback if most of your content is in HD. You will need Blu-ray, and Blu-ray without menus isn’t any good.
Verdict
CyberLink Power 2Go 9 has some stunning features, a great deal of flexibility and an easy to use approach to getting the job done. It would be a perfect tool in your toolbox if you don’t mind its ‘handicapped’ Blu-ray capabilities.
