Description

Hurricanes are devastating storms that have affected millions of Americans. They destroy property, coastlines, and unfortunately kill.

Have you ever wondered…..what year Hurricane Allen dominated the Gulf of Mexico or what was the lowest pressure of any landfalling U.S. hurricane? What did the track look like in the Great New England Hurricane of 1938 or did Hurricane Andrew move ashore in South Florida in the middle of the afternoon? This app answers those questions and more.

This Extreme Hurricanes app is a basic reference app for hurricanes and a couple of tropical storms. It covers the top 20 most intense hurricanes to develop in the Atlantic Basin, the 50 strongest hurricanes to make landfall in the continental United States, the 30 costliest hurricanes in the United States, and the 50 deadliest hurricanes in U.S. history.

Each of the four basic "extreme" (most intense, strongest at landfall, costliest, and deadliest) categories is setup in a table. You can drill down into each hurricane in the table to look at some specific details:

Most intense – Name, year, intensity rank, lowest pressure reached and when, location of the lowest pressure reading, highest winds, and a basic track.

Strongest U.S. Landfall – Name, year, strongest rank, landfall date and time, landfall location, highest winds at landfall, pressure at landfall, the storm's extremes, and a basic track.

Costliest – Name, year, costliest ranking, landfall location, winds at landfall, pressure at landfall, the storm's extremes, and a basic track.

Deadliest – Name, deadliest rank, date at time of landfall, primary location of U.S. landfall, winds/category at landfall, pressure at landfall, the storm's extremes, and a basic track.

Also included are two charts. One is a basic tropical cyclone classification chart which specifies when a tropical cyclone becomes a tropical depression, tropical storm, hurricane, and major hurricane. The second chart breaks down the division between hurricane categories.

The iPad version includes the tracks of major U. S. landfalling hurricanes since 1900, an interactive landfall map, and a geographical reference map.

While this is a simple hurricane reference app, we hope you enjoy looking into some of the most extreme hurricanes in U.S. history.
