◆ aPalatina: Your personal guide to the Palatine Chapel in Palermo◆
◆Placing yourself at the heart of the main nave, this guide will accompany your visit with a captivating narration. A new and exciting way to live your travel experiences! ◆
In an effort to celebrate the multi-cultured heritage of Mediterranean architecture and artistry, we began our series of 100 apps with the Palatin Chapel. It is the Sicilian monument most indicative of the magic that happens when cultures put aside their differences and create instead of destroy.
This small 32-meter-long church was built in 1132, and it exhibits the extraordinary convergence of Muslim and Byzantine stylistic influences. Interestingly enough, King Roger II, ruler of the time, was known for celebrating diversity in his court. Distinctive features of the exquisite church are typical Muslim symbols like four eight-pointed stars in clusters arranged on the ceiling in the form of a Christian cross.
aPalatina will complement and enhance your tour of the monument; or educate and amuse you even if you are at home.
