In der schriftlichen Prüfung müssen Taxischein-Anwärter 45 von 50 Fragen richtig beantworten. Der Taxi-Coach 2017 funktioniert fast wie die echte schriftliche Prüfung: Sie bekommen eine Frage und fünf mögliche Antworten, von denen Sie eine oder mehrere auswählen müssen. Wenn Sie die Auswahl abschließen, bekommen Sie sofort angezeigt, welche Ihrer Antworten richtig waren und welche falsch.
Unterschied zur echten Prüfung: Es sind nicht immer dieselben fünf Antworten, die Sie auf jede Frage bekommen, sondern jedes Mal andere. Wenn zum Beispiel nach den Begrenzungen der Prenzlauer Allee gefragt wird, gibt es sechs mögliche richtige Antworten (Torstr., Mollstr., Karl-Liebknecht-Str., Wisbyer Str., Ostseestr. und Prenzlauer Promenade). Außerdem enthält die Datenbank eine Sammlung aus falschen Antworten (vielleicht Otto-Braun-Str., Danziger Str., Bornholmer Str., Gustav-Adolf-Str. usw.). Wenn das Programm nun die Prenzlauer Allee als Frage ausgewählt hat, zieht es per Zufallsauswahl einige richtige und einige falsche Antworten, insgesamt fünf, die angezeigt werden, und die Sie nach richtigen und falschen unterscheiden müssen. Natürlich gibt es auch viele Fragen mit nur einer richtigen Antwort (z. B. in welcher Straße ein bestimmtes Objekt ist). Dann sind es vier falsche Antworten – aber eben meistens andere als beim vorigen Mal.
Wenn Sie einen Katalogeintrag zur Genüge beherrschen, können Sie ihn deaktivieren, so dass er nicht mehr als Frage erscheint. (Aber seien Sie nicht zu voreilig: Beim nächsten Mal kommen wahrscheinlich andere Antwortvorgaben!) Sie können auch ganze Kategorien herausfiltern. Wenn Sie z. B. zunächst nur Straßen und Plätze lernen möchten, schalten Sie einfach Bezirke, Ortsteile, Siedlungen und Objekte aus und später wieder an. Wenn Sie einen Bezirk nach dem anderen lernen, schalten Sie nach Lust und Laune einzelne Bezirke aus und später wieder an.
