Check out Bulk Rename Utility; it has a great deal of flexibility, and it is free:

I don’t think I’ll be installing this, as I use a portable, free file renamer (http://www.webxpace.com/software/freeware.shtml) that has been working very well for me. It is light, can be installed anywhere, and has all the features I’ve ever needed for renaming files. It doesn’t look pretty, but it does the job and it doesn’t mess up my computer.

In my opinion Total Commander is good enough in file renaming.
